Hi Paul,
Depth will depend to a great deal on the ground conditions, and you?ll find on the XP?s will be generally affected even more by Ground Reject, than by Sens. Turning Anti Clockwise (Left) will increase depth, Clockwise (Right) decrease depth. However, this control must be used VERY CAREFULLY, and usually I keep mine at about 10 or 11 o?clock if possible with the 9 inch, and 11 or 12 o?clock if possible with the 11 inch coils.
As you rightly deduced, depth is not everything in treasure hunting (On land), and 99.5% of finds are found in the first 4 to 6 inches.
Mostly when you hear of people saying that they?ve recovered a find from 10 or 11 inches, it?s because the find kept slipping back down the hole, or new earth has been dumped onto an old field to flatten it out (Doesn?t happen as often as people imagine).
Your best weapon is good target recognition (Iron discrimination/recognition), and a fast recovery.  Great

hi aussie , what size coin are you talking about though, old english hammered coins are about 15 mm across and very thin and then they used to get clipped around the edges which makes them a bit smaller, my goldmaxx power will pick up an old copper penny at 12" deep if its laying right, so it really depends on size of coin cheers paul.
