Since its UK itroduction May 2010 I have seen Central Searchers members change from 75% Minelab to 75 % XP Deus and all the Deus users are finding that they can detect faster without getting arm or back ache so they are covering a llot more ground, hence number of finds have increased. I only got my Deus in March this year, but I can honestly say its a dream to use and the depth is just as good as my Etrac. I really like my Etrac but the Deus is in a class of its own.  The wireless Technology is just an added bonus!

Are you using the 11" coil with yours? How it is on batteries, and how long do you get?

Just using the stock coil, several in the club purchased the 11" coil when it was launched and most have now sold them on ebay and gone back to the stock coil. It seems that with the 11" coil only a little extra depth is gained but it puts the detector out of balance and does not run as smooth as the original coil. I have been really suprised how deep I have found targets with just the stock coil.

I went to the Deus [xp] website today finally , and as I was scrolling I saw a little remote control update [option for users] and clicked it . The next page for both the english and the French language translations said update requires any Windows operating system !!  In UK and Europe , I thought Linux was the operating system of choice ? Maybe not anymore !!  I just thought I would mention that today before anyone runs out to buy one .    :Smiley

The updates runs under windows and is very easy to apply, who else gives free software updates that make your detector ver-2 I remember purchasing a Whites V3 in 2009 and  V3i was then released the following year. free updates where not available for them that purchased early models, anyway it was the most unstable machine I have ever owned and Whites failed to sort out the V3 V-Rated coil issues so it was sold to make way for the Deus, best move I could have made.

For linux systems you can run a windows emulator. Such as wine. Some programs though don't work well under emulators. And I don't know about this one in particular. I used to get around it by dual booting my computers. That way if I wanted to do something in windows I could.

The larger coils have never really gone much deeper than the stock coil (Only about an inch), instead they have been designed to be just as sensitive as the original coil, but just cover a larger area instead  Teach

On the waterproof part, how deep in the water can you go with this? And, can you walk in the water say up to your chest deep?  I see mentioned earlier that they make some kind of extension so you can go deeper, I guess maybe it is a antenna extension? Is anyone using this on the beach and how is it doing around salt beaches? Thanks, John

Thatīs correct, there is an antennae extension for the coil, but how much deeper you can go in water Iīm not sure, never having used such a thing.

Here's some reviews of the XP Deus.

I have purchased quite a few detectors over the last few years, and I have got to say the Deus is the dogs testicles, it is easy to transport, physicaly light as a feather. It has cordless headphones, remote control box, very fast response, and it performs like no other machine I have used.   Grin

Being in the US, I have watched this machine very closdly for the last 6 months.  Finally, two months ago, I bought one and became a dealer here in the US.

My last machine was a Minelab 705 Gold.  The Deus has it all over that one.  I have not experienced any interference with overhead wires or buried cables.  I love the fact that I can hook up the control box to my PC and get updates.  Beats having to pack it up and send back the machine to the manufacturer.

I love the beach detecting mode.  I can go into the water with no worries.  I just leave the control box in my truck!  If the machine falls into the water, no problem.  Waterproof coil, and I still have the headphones on.  Or, I can put the control box in a Ziplok bag to make sure it stays dry.

I have found the meter spot on, but I am still learning the pitches.

I think this is a spectacular machine.
