Having grown up hearing relatives who had survived WW2 speak of the atrocities committed by the Japanese army, I had always wondered: what was it that caused them to torture and kill so wantonly?
I recently chanced across a 2001 documentary titled 'Japanese Devils' (original title Riben Guizi) that gave some insight. It has English subtitles and consists of former Japanese Imperial Army soldiers telling of their wartime experiences. It's not in HD, the camera-work is bland at best and the audio is only so-so, but I found that what those former soldiers had to say was interesting.
For those who can't find a copy of it at the local video store, you may run a Google search for "japanese devils ext. torrent".
