I have had a V3i for a couple years now. It is a fine machine but has a very steep learning curve; not a machine for the new or meek that wish to just turn on and go. Although the built in programs are nice they do much better with some tweaking. I love the color display which is very usable in bright sunlight as well as in the dark... Also have really taken to the wireless headphones. It is a battery eater so carry lots of spares. There are a lot of users on the Whites forums that are much more experienced with the unit than I am, I suggest you check there. I am still learning despite having the unit for two summers.. The double d coil that comes with the V3i works well in most areas, I have not bothered to purchase any other coil. If you do prefer a smaller coil make sure it is made to use with the V3i. The V3i uses three frequencies but can be programmed to use only one. I am far from an expert so please refer to Whites for more in depth information.

Yeah I only buy the V Rated coils, The 12"300 does get massive depth on medium ground and the 9.5/950 coil I about their best all rounder, the 9x5(10x6) is a deep little beast but that little 5.3 can hold its own to, And it does see tiny things, I think I would rather that than the 4x6 shooter,

The best feature about the V3i is that it can go back and have updates and yes it is a tricky little devil, But some of the features were on the Eagle II SL90 that was the most complex machine that I had seen until the V series came out,
I have been on the whites forum about it but its one of those subjects that you have to be sure about before you jump in on it as the learning curve is quite high.

i have a v3i and its no harder than the MXT it has set programs u can run until u wan t to play with the settings …. great machine better than the ctx3030 i had it sold it .. the screen is great.. sounds any way u want to hear … don't be bothered by all the settings just don't use them until u want and with a few clicks u can set it up back to new and start over with changes… so u can't screw it up ….
