Yes, it could be just going into Over Load.  Out Side in open ground NO known targets  try it walking over something like a small soup can.  You may just be trying to run it TOO HOT.  Sensitivity Cranked Up ?

The problem is not only that it doesn't ring over big masses, but also that it rings randomly even if I set the buttons

Actually, if the factory or your Whites rep in Italy says it is working fine then the only other issue is user technique. It may take some time to get to the answer and it will probably make you angry in the end but the answer will be found.

Where did you buy the machine?

  Make sure any and all wires are Secure (Not Free to Move even a Little ) and undamaged at or in the Connectors ? Huh?

Yes, I checked every link and connectors and I think Whites Italy did it too.. a friend of mine in an electrical engineer but to check it he needs the adjustament data o calibration data of the instrument but whites italy doesn't give them to me..

Actually, he doesn't need anything. Since Whites does not cover or remove chip markings and most of the signals are digital, he can easily determine what should be there. Also, look on the US Patent search web site for patents related to Whites devices. You can even see the patent number on some detectors and look up all that you need.
