Oxide of a metal is another compound with its specific color not necessarely equal to the metal color.. For example bullet shells are gold brass color when new.. But when buried they become dark green.. If cleaned they become copper color.. I think your object is a silver alloy watching at the new pictures. Try the powder test as GD says and.. Powder color is a diagnostic element to distinguisc metals and mineral.. The color of the powder is not the same of the mineral in many cases.
