i do get out alot 2to4 times a week  8 to 10 hours at a time [ retired and all ] makes a big differance

 not if u recharge them  i go out about 100 or so times a year one set of batterys dose it and thats a 8 hour day   D.P.Swing

LOL, it's still a lot of batteries. Do you carry a spare set? Two spare sets? I do. All of them recharged and kept topped off. NiMh batteries tend to self discharge even though they have a greater capacity. One of my older machines, which uses a great deal of current. has not got a lead-acid gel cell battery on a belt instead of the original battery pack.

Some of us take this treasure hunting stuff seriously. I measure my finds by the kilogram these days. My finds bucket overflows regularly.
