What is the operating principle and frequency of the Tesoro Cutless II and the White's Prizm III metal detectors. Also, does anyone has the owners manual for the Heathkit GR-1290 VLF?

Thank you homefire for your reply. Indeed the Tesoro Cutless II runs ay 10 kHz and it is a VLF type detector. For the White's Peizm III I could not open up the reference but I will call White tomorrow for the information. As far the GR-1290 VLF goes, the schematic is readily available, but a Heathkit manual would show the PCB layout saving me the time to "reinvent" the wheel. So is anyone happens to have a Heathkit naturally I would pay for the photo copying and the postage to my address. Take care, Nhopa.

Hi:
I checked with White's about the Prizm III. Operating principle VLS, frequency 8 kHz. The best VLS White's is selling is the GMT Gold and this unit runs at 48 kHz.

First let me say that 48Khz is no longer within the VLF frequency as it ends at 30Khz, however that higher frequency will work wondres for finding gold

Hi Xavier:
I got the 48 kHz yesterday from the "horse's mouth" the White's spokes person in Oregon. When I asked for the best VLS type detector, I was told it is the GMI Gold and it runs at 48 kHz.

Sure hope that you will go out detecting with it soon and that you will find some gold. The high frequency is definitely the best that you can have when looking for gold but it reduces the depth of detection, low frequencies will give you more depth but are not good to find gold.

Hi Xavier:
I have a question that may sound silly but here it goes. Both the PI and VLS detectors have their advantages. Is there such unit on the market that combines both operating principle in one unit? What I mean is, there would be two separate PC boards (or more if necessary) in the control box and perhaps 4 coils incorporated into the search head. There would be a circuit that would switch the operation back and forth between PI and VLF modes as often as deemed necessary. The PI coils could be shielded from the VLF coils to eliminate interference.

P.S. In the past I spent some time in Brussels and I have couple of favorite restaurants. I forgot the names but I would find them easy. One is a fantastic seafood place close to Port de Louis and the other one is a small place around Grand Place serving very good File American among other delicious dishes.
