After much research on Victoria Peak and Doc Noss I believe 90% of the story is a hoax. I do think Doc found some letters and maybe a few coins maybe an old Indian stash but the rest of the story was made up to con investors out of their money. How about some input, so we can get some interesting topics going.

I think he found something just not at VP and that he was using that area as a cover to through people off from where he was really going.

That's interesting Martin what do you think he was working on. This is the first time I have seen anyone suggest that theory.
Seldom

I believe that he had found a very large cache somewhere else. That he was taking the gold to VP to make people think that that is where he found it so no one would know the true location of his find.

Martin do you have any idea's on what he might have found and where. I have not had time to look Thu my info on this maybe later this week. I think he found a cache of treasure hide by Indians stole from wagon trains etc. not 100's of gold bars like we are lead to believe. If there were 100's and 100's of bars and the government got involved we will never know will we.

I would say that he found his treasures on or in Geronimo peak or in the caballo's and was moving it to VP B/C it was illegal to own gold in those years, so he was waiting to figure out what to do with it.

I will tell you this. I talked to a guy that I bought my sluice box from. He lives in CO. he said that back in the late sixties he was stationed at WSMR as security guard for the AF. He said that he and a buddy went to VP and started digging at one of the filled in entrances. He said that two people became four and four became eight and eight became twelve. They finally got it open and went in.
He said that there was stacks of GOLD bars covered with hides and that they each took two bars. Then they came back and took twenty-two bars each and covered the entrance back. Then each person went and buried their gold in different place that each one would not know where the other had buried his. He then told me that a couple years ago he was wathing a TV show about VP and that the camera went and scanned by right where he buried his and that nothing of the terrain had really changed so he knew his gold was still there on WSMR. He also said that his son was/is in the airforce and was /is stationed there as a security police and told him where his gold is and to go dig it up but, (Yeah I know always a But) he could not do it without being seen b/c of all the security around the area.

Sorry it took so long to get back but you know life gets in the way sometimes.
As for people finding it and removing a few bars and hiding them---- I have heard or read dozens of tails along that line. There is just to many unanswered questions there. Why re hide it? Why only bring out 1 or 2 bars? Why has no letters or mail ever been brought out and studied? Why has no one ever sold anything that was brought out?
Was there ever a treasure there? Maybe had be something somewhere to get so many important people involved.
Did the government go in and get it leading to the big cover up so many people think took place?

I know this is a old thread I started a year ago, but lets see if we can breath some new life into it. Lots of new members in the last year what do you all think.

Jones
There is lots of info on the net about it.
The only book I have read about it was.
100 Tons of Gold: The Incredible Story Behind the Biggest Buried Treasure in the U.S.
Think it was published in 1978 so a little dated.
