If you read the history books, you will learn that Butch Cassidy was the groundbreaker on the Outlaw Trail, which was a small path that lead from Mexico up through Utah and ended in Montana. Along the way, there were many hideouts and ranches that would hire outlaws as ranch hands. However, what you will find in history books is that there was also a trail that leads through Colorado.
Cassidy during the late 1800?s gathering together his bandits that soon became known as the Wild Bunch and they included Dick Maxwell, Elzy Lay, and Harry Longabaugh, known as the Sundance Kid, Henry Wilbur (Bub) Meeks, and George Currie.
Cassidy and the Wild Bunch had several different trails, hideouts, and ranches that dotted the countryside to hide from the law. One popular hideout for not only Butch Cassidy, but also infamous outlaws such as Isom Dart and Matt Warner was the one in Irish Canyon. Irish Canyon can be found in the northwestern part of Colorado just northwest of Maybell. It is believed that $30,000 in silver coins was buried somewhere in Irish Canyon by Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch, however, no one has found the spot and there is only word of mouth to find the buried treasure.

Seldom:

All right, I'll do some research on Maybell, that'll put out in the Uinta Mountains where there are a bunch of local stories about Mormon Gold Mines.

WE are in UTAH...and that does sound like a good hunt! Clapp
Where are you?
My husband and I can do Saturdays and sometimes other days of the week too.

WE are looking for some UTAH groups to join up with and take with us.
The price of gas now is ridiculous and we think it would be more fun going together and saving on the gas too.

My Grandma grew up in Beaver and told about Butch Cassidy coming into town and giving the kids rides on his horse

My fishing Buddy is a descendant of Butch Cassidy.  A few years ago we went on a fishing trip to Patagonia.  While there we checked out some of the locations he was at and met some of the families that had dealings with him.  If your really curious drop me a line I'm sure I can get any story confirmed or denied for you.

Matt
