There are many stories of lost/hidden treasure in Michigan.  I taught Michigan History and incorporated several of these stories in my lessons.  Your best bet to find leads is to visit the library, "Borders" or "Barnes & Noble" and look in their Michigan/Local History sections.  Everything from lost silver/gold mines, lost mob loot(the mob was huge in Michigan, due to booze runners picking up alcohol in Canada during prohibition), sunken treasure ships to buried bank rolls.   People don't realize that Michigan was one of the earliest places settled by Europeans and has some of the oldest cities in the United States.  The city of Sault Saint Marie Michigan was started in the Mid' 1600's by French fur traders and explorers.  Even these early traders had stories/legends of lost treasure and mines in Michigan.   There is even documentation out there of a French mining expedition that explored and started a silver mine in Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula. They returned to Montreal with several canoes filled with silver & copper ore, but never returned because it wasn't practical to mine and then transport silver ore by canoe.   To this day no one knows the exact location of where that mine was/is.   You have 350 plus years of history and treasure stories to sort through.

Dleppen, That is some interesting stuff there. Hope to get to the UP soon and have a look around. My daughter's friend is an archaeologist for the US Park Service up at Isle Royale. Yea... I know,,,, no detectors there  : :(

I now live in Mid-Michigan and I'm always looking for people willing to thunt with.

Yeah, no metal detectors is a bummer.  But Isle Royale is still a fun trip, especially if you are into camping and fishing.  If you decide to go there while in the U.P., I'd take the Isle Royale Queen IV from Copper Harbor.  It is a smaller ship and its a longer drive to get to it, but I think the scenic drive is worth it.  If you own a decent size boat, I suppose you could take that out there.  We went out there in my Dads boat a few times.  Good Fishing, but it can be pretty hairy if the weather gets bad.

I been treasure hunting for 50 years in Mi. There is stuff all over the place, look at all the old neswpapers some citys that then going back to late 1700. I have found alot of good info in them.
