Boulder City Nevada Mystery

Here's a little mystery that might turn into a worthwhile lead or two for people in the Las Vegas area----

Raymond Spilsbury was one of the principal investors/partners in the Boulder Dam Hotel in Boulder City Nevada although he spent most of the time between World War I and early 1944 living in Peru.  In May 1944, he retired and moved back to the United States.  Eventually moving into the Boulder Dam Hotel on November 4, 1944.   

On January 19, 1945, Raymond Spilsbury drove alone to Emery's Landing at the mount of Eldorado Canyon about 20 miles from Boulder City.  When Mr Emery notice the car was still parked there at 3 a.m. the next morning he started looking for the occupant of the car.  Finding no one, he woke up a few people camping at his place to help him look. Some time between 4am on Saturday and Monday evening, Spilsbury's  coat and hat were found under an overhang.  The coat had been carefully folded and both were held down by a carefully placed rock to prevent them from being blown away.   Inside the coat pockets was found a check dated December 30, 1944 for $12,352.40, $1100.00 in traveler's checks, $53.00 in cash, 2 pairs of glasses, and the keys to the rooms of the Boulder Dam Hotel.

A body believed to be Mr. Spilsbury's was found by 3 fishermen from Los Angeles on February 27, 1945 about 8 miles downstream.   Mr. Spilsbury's widow was always suspicious about the circumstances of her husband's death and claimed that the Mr Emery tried to "blackmail into a sum of money if he found Ray's body".

Accidental drowning or foul play?  And given the sums of money found in the coat as well as the histories of people involved in the Boulder City area, could there be sizeable caches out there just waiting to be found by the lucky person following the clues of this story?

Yep, clearly robbery was not involved....but Mr. Emery had been heavily invested in a company that had owned the hotel at one time--and had been "wiped out" financially when the company went belly-up.     When the company Mr. Emery had been invested in failed, the Spilsbury family came out "smelling like roses".    And just what was Mr. Spilsbury doing down at the river?   Is it possible he had buried one or more caches that he was either checking on or adding to during one of his previous trips to the Boulder City area?   Could one of the Emery's have a cache in the area?   Lot's of threads that can be followed here.  Most will be dead-ends, but pull the right couple of threads, and who knows what you might find at the end.
