They use them here up next to the Mountains in the Shadowed spots.

GD will this be good for WI-FI too? (Internet)

They sure do. I get 30km (yes, Kilometers) of distance between two high gain antennae on my LAN between our house and my daughter's place. You must have line of sight to work. My antenna is higher than hers. It took a quarter of an hour to align them properly. Here's what we used along with an LNA (Low Noise Amplifier).

It works for both the LAN and the 3G digital network. Not the same antenna. We have one here for the phone and one for the LAN. The other end has one of those. The LNA is not required but during rain, it punches right through. We need a boost in power for days like that.

For 900Mhz GSM phones (almost surely what is used in your area), use one of these on the output side:

along with one of these to amplify the signal both ways:

add one of these inside your house or on a pole outside for property coverage:

That rig above will boost your range from a couple of kilometers to 20 or so but you will have to aim the Yagi antenna accurately towards the nearest line of sight tower.

WOW thank GD

We have a WI-FI tower about 60m yes 60m from us and we hardly get any signal so we cant use it. If I look at the signal strength on the Wlan-ap on my note book I only have one bar of signal strength. This system was installed about one year ago and has proven to be quite useless could it be because we are too close to the tower?

Regards xavier

The antenna orientation is critical when you are that close. Lay it on its side and try it. If you are using the internal setup with the coil mounted horizontally on the computer motherboard, try tilting the computer sideways. On other words, change the orientation just long enough to see if the bars change. If they do, you might need to use an external WiFi setup with an antenna you can reorient to the proper alignment.

Hi Wolfpaw518

Pretty soon there will be a lot more history to add to the old one and the way that I see the future it's going to end in a blood bath. Remember the Belgium Congo?  Well I think this is going to go the same way and then 50 or so years latter it will become a prosperous country again. (Just my opinion)

All the best
Xavier

Guess who is back online from home  Idea Hi guys, sorry about not hearing from me but connection at work was also stolen  Shocked anyway, after much @#$% from me, they got to running around, and the line was back on again today. I guess that is quicker than August / September hey?Huh?

GD, that antennae idea sounds good.... I have worked with Yagi antennae before, and yes they are great.... Anyway, at this time I am now back online  Cheesy

I went back out to the one Boer war site last Saturday and found about 12 .303 cases that were fired from the British..... We had great fun, and lots of good exercise for me.

I am finishing off a database for treasure hunters that has been developed in MS Access.... I will make it available on my website soon... I will keep you informed. It is just going through testing stages.

Anyway, I have about 400 emails in my yahoo account to get through, so will write again soon.
