Go Up Go Down

Hi , me again.
The job went really well today. Man those two last teams are stress bunnies. They battled their backsides off to find those plates.I was with one team and my assistant Moses had the other.
It all went down rather quickly and once they started searching I had to hide or stay behind the camera man.....Serious stuff I tell you!
I managed to get a couple of pics and the camera guy took a few for me.
The site was the Atlantis Dunes in Cape Town. By the time we where finished it was about 40 degrees out there.
After the team found their clue I went and collected the remaining buried plates.....which the director had planted not me......while I was at the other teams site. Took me about an hour to locate the remaining 10 plates in a 50m radius. I did fine a 1c,20c some bullet frags and shells and slug from a .38. Also 1 key, some buttons(modern) and all sorts of other junk.
Anyway I could talk for a long time about today and it would all be positive.

And s'more. I'll see what I got on my phone and post again later.

Silki
Nice finds man ! I think you are going to do fine with that xcal. I went to Clifton beach on the weekend and won't even bother posting my pics hehehe!
Sometimes you win sometimes you "break even".....I never have a BAD day hunting! Wink
I can tell you that your first gold ring is just around the corner though....that's for sure.......probably on your next hunt.
Nice to make contact again
Viking

Hi Viking ! This pictures of yours are amazing ! It looks like Sahara desert ! Where do you get place like this around the Cape ? I want to try my xcal in diving , but ocean is to rough - maybe in the dam first .For now I am trying to build some good sand scoop , I saw few good examples on the forum - all this garden tools , small shovels etc dont work at all in the sand , especially in the waves area ! Got some ideas , hopefully  will be able to show my results by the end of the week !

Hi Pgill
I will put some more up later, don't think we'll be seeing this on our screens though. They took a lot of footage of me recovering targets so I will try and get some kind of rough edit.
Silki
This is in the dunes at Atlantis....the pictures are nothing... the place could take your breath away.
lots of shell and bone middens around and we even found a nice piece of delft pottery.
Just remember that it's not a good idea to separate your machine for diving rather just use it at it's shortest length....especially around wrecks where the chances of a snag are much higher.
It sounds like you are quite an experienced diver and you might be able to handle it but you will end up snatching the wire out of the coil or the housing. Just a tip I picked up along the way.
Chat later
Viking

Hi Silki,

On the dry sand I use a Tupperware jug with holes drilled in it for a scoop..... But remember I only search the beach once a year..... In the water, I don't have a clue  No no!

Viking, more photos would be great thank you..... That beach and dunes looks incredible..... I have not seen dunes like that in years.... I will try and give you a call again for a chat  Hello I must phone Xavier also to see how he is doing...... He does not have much internet connection at this time, that is why he has not written here for a while  Angry we need him back here again  Great

Pgill, it's hard to chit chat about detecting in South Africa when I live in Perth. I suppose I could fake it.

Went out today, saw two giraffes fighting over a coconut and a lion was licking her lips when she saw my dog. He's not happy, Peter.

How's that? Feel better now?

Hey Pgill...heard the boys are getting a hunt setup come this Sept. Not sure I can make it but would love to. It's a long ways to go, something like 18 hours straight and then a few more hours to Pt Elizabeth all for 7 days of detecting. You can read all about it here:
