Battery drain is always an issue to those of us who stay in the field a long time. We have coins that are different to the USA here as well but it doesn't trouble me. I don't use target ID or discrimination. I have to see each target before I reject it and place it in the left side of my pouch.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

GD, that is more or less what I have been doing.... I have also been listening to the sounds to try and hear what each item sounds like.... I am getting used to the detector... just taking a bit of time  Great

Pgill, After a couple of hundred hours using the 250 I can tell you that the pinpoint function can be very useful. There are certain situations I hunt with my finger on the pinpoint button. When you get a hit, release the button for ID. This I do when I am in a very quite area where targets are deep and signals are weak. In many areas you can turn the sensitivity up to maximum without significiant falseing in pinpoint mode. but you have to slow your scanning down. I also use it when I'm in a junkey area where targets are too close together... You can separate out a single target in pinpoint mode and then ID It by releasing the button. I hope this helps gambol

Hi Guys
Hope you all had a good weekend. I cannot speak for the Ace 250 but I had the same issue with the T2 regarding battery drain. I also was just starting out with the T2 and I could not believe the way it ate the batteries, it was also very noisy. Since then I have learned how to set the machine up properly and it runs a lot quieter now. Seems to have solved the battery issue as well. They give me about 25 hrs as apposed to the 40 hrs advertised, that said I am not using the most expensive cells. This weekend I learnt a big lesson about trusting the machine and it's depth and pinpoint are extremely accurate.
I had a nice farm hunt again this weekend , the results of which can be viewed at

Hi Guys,
First off, Xavier is in my neck of the woods and has asked me to let you all know, his communications is not good where he is, so will be a bit quiet for a while....  Great

Viking, that site of your is fantastic.... I love buckles, and you are finding them all.... Oh an photos of those buttons would be just great  Wise I would love to see clearer photos....

Unfortunately I did not get to my site as my friend who was going with me, suddenly developed stones.... which turned out to be very sore to remove from his system..... Ouch  Idiot

I did do some panoramic videos for my website and they have turned out great.... each is only 2 megs in size, and when you go onto the page you give a couple of moments to load, and then you use your mouse to drag the video around the whole 360'..... Please take a look and let me know what you think....

I am very happy with them... They took me about 4 nights to work out how to do them...

If all goes well, Xavier and myself will be going out detecting on Saturday  Grin He does know already that all gold belongs to me.... But he can keep everything else if he wants  Grin  Hello

Hi Viking ! Some still around ! I was just reading yours blog - good stuff and nice finds ! I thing this Brits button looks exactly like one which I found around my place ! There should be my photo somewhere in early postings ! I got myself Minelab Excalibur II - that what my doctor prescribed me for depression ! I am planing to try it underwater in Sodwana in 2 weeks - but it is very different machine to my DFX and others : no display , only sounds ! Maybe I will visit you in CT sometime for some wreck diving ?

Hi Silki
Thanks, hope you enjoy the blog...I'm still pretty new to the whole writing thing. The xcal is a nice machine congratulations. Did you buy it from Wolfgang in cape Town? I am still learning the sound on the CZ21....NO DISPLAY IS GOOD EAR TRAINING Wink
I am learning to listen between the lines.....the wife should be happy.
I am enjoying the farm hunts, I find new spots all the time and the one that I have been blogging about is a real winner.....for me anyway.
I am going to start the streams and dams soon....don't like the muddy water much I like to see what's around me. Not that there can be anything to attack me......it's just the thought grrrrr.
But I think it will be worth the effort.....at least I will find out if there is anything interesting down there.
I sold a CZ to a guy on a private island in Mozambique today. It has lots of wrecks around it and the diving is excellent. I will go and take a look some time. He has found a site where there is a large wooden anchor it lies in only 5m of warm crystal clear water.
What a life hey? I asked him if he did'nt have a pilot position for me Smiley

Hi Viking ! I was negotiating with Wolfgang , but he is still waiting for the stock , and eventually got one for better price  here , in Pretoria  - Revilo Technologies - George , also Minelab dealer .  He told me that he is selling quiet few MD's - specialized for gold , to Zimbabwe (?) - apparently one can find nice nuggets there - well , I wouldent be brave enough to risk my old back side but locals may get some good results ? I decided for Excalibur because it is possible to attaches control box on the chest or hip for diving and I usually have lots of stuff with me so I dont want to have big thing in my hands. But I am still going to try it ! So far I am disappointed with inland sites - I dont think I will ever match Pgill !!
