Weldone Peter you've got that machine runing real good now by the looks of it,

put that coin between two lumps of wood and clump it with a big hammer that will straighten it out,

how was the machine this time and how were your settings

Thanks AU Fever  Great I am pleased with the finds...

AU, I still carried on with the original settings and they were much better when I was watching the numbers  Great I am still finding great numbers until I dig ad then find that it is iron  Idea so need to work on that..... When it says Iron, it is Iron  Shocked Just not sure why when it is that numbers of say 60+ can also be iron when dug, but once they are out of the hole they read Iron  No no! but that is not always though.... It is a great detector, but will look at the smaller coil in time to come as this machine can get a little bit heavy after walking most of the day with it  Cheesy
I have been told that my stuff ranges from Tudor to present day.... 1485 till present so I am happy with that.... This is still only the small field... two more fields to go, so maybe another range of dates.... This first field I only covered about 6 lengths, only about another 100 to do.... But I do need beacons to keep me straight  Shocked

Peter, Try doing it in 100ft box's/Squares, Iron over a certain size will fool any detector and also if it is deep that will make it come up as a +/plus numbers and if you try it at differant angles it will confirm this, I usually sweep in 6 differant directions, How deep was that coin and how was your deepest Target/Item,

AU

I usually do the box's in 100/200ft X 100ft and over Lap them, hence why I use the GPS and first I put pegs in the corners and walk around the box so that I have a record of it on GPS so that I can Grid the field,

If you found 1 silver coin theres going to be even more there, and who knows maybe a Gold coin, (fingers crossed),

good luck,  AU

Thanks AU  Great

The coin was only about 3" - 4" down but it is ploughed land... Some of the finds were shallow and some as much as about 9" deep.... I will try sweeping all directions to see if I can eliminate the deep iron  Great I will get it right  Shocked I have four plastic rods which I will cut for markers, and will also see how my Garmin works,,, but it does not cover paths so not sure.

)..... Anyway, just to let you know.... I found 10 buttons from the 1500 - 1600's, a complete buckle (no date yet) plus a piece of a buckle.... Roman pottery, and the best a 1877 silver 3 pence,,,, bad news though is it was bent with a plough,,,, damn, why do they not use ploughs with rubber teeth

Nice haul. Good things are coming, keep at it (like that needs to be said, lol)

Peter, also if it is miss reading some items, if you turn the gain down a little at a time that will help it to Identify things better, but alot of it might be that big coil, and I think the 950/9.5 will suit you better and you will keep alot of depth along with separration,

Try that and see how you go, the 950 coil is just about perfect on that machine,

The optimum size for a coil is in the region of 280mm you'll get the depth and you will still find small objects but a 240mm coil is the size that I'm going for at the moment as an all purpose coil. I will build a small coil of 180mm for detecting gold and I may even try a coils 140mm if I get good results with the 180mm coil.

Yes peter go for the 950 with the cover, covers are cheap coils arn't and that will have you firing on all 8 cylinders, you should ask at regtons again coz they might do you a deal etc, the people that I was dealing have none and are no longer selling them, and then your next coil should be the 5.3 which is a 6" concentric and it goes deep as in 9"+

ok, AU
