Cool mate I got to  the new detector a test run today but there are so many flies that I gave up after an hour, when I got home I opened the cold water tap to wash my hand and ended up burning my self. i will give the detector a test run at our site by the mud house. Here is a photo of the junk that I found while testing the detector. Copper tubing, three pieces of lead, lead washer for the roof, a brass roof screw, a rusted iron ring, a bridle buckle and two pieces of tin.

I had a look at it Peter, at what depth can it detect a Euro coin?

Thanks AU, not quite there yet though. I think that there's a component that's not doing the job quite right, so now I will have to look into that then there is still an issue with my coil but I know what it is so that will make things a bit easier. The Colpitts oscillator that I build seems to be the answer for making coils to the right frequency if you do not have a good quality inductance meter. I think that I'm going to build the universal coil tester they have on the geotech forum (Homefire sent me the link) definitely a handy tool to have.

Have fun and be good (Peter will get you into loads of trouble if you're not careful)      Cool

Did I not tell you that this was a VLF machine? TGSL? well if not then now you know. Yes Peter it can discriminate but will still ring when large bits of steel are found BUT unlike your machine it sounds a bit different when it's rusted steel, it's sort of non ferrous yet with a ferrous sound in it. LOOK mate I just took it out for a test run so as I progress with it I'll be able to tell you more about it too  Great I'll bring it with to the UK to show you how to  Detecting with a real detector OK  Cheesy

Ok Buddy, when are you going to show me how to detect properly  Idea come on hurry up and stop wasting time  Funny I am glad that you have a good detector now, about time,,,, hey you may even find a horseshoe or two  Laughing

I can get two magazines here on metal detecting / treasure hunting, they are great with lots of good stuff in them  Great a great local reference tool. I think that you need to write a local SA magazine seeing as you have so much time on your hands  Touch
