gautenglion,

Please sign up on my website, then you can download a questionnaire that I put together (.docx) file to give friend and family to jog their memories and give you sites to search. The site is set up that you need to be a member for full access..... The document can be found in the "Multimedia", "Documents" section of the site..... Just sign up and then I will have to check you in.... It will ask you to fill in your profile.... A little hassle, but I think it is worth it for you..... There are some good movies, and a forum online.

Hi Pgill

What you have to do is measure the resistance of your coil (I take it that it's a PI) you also need a ferrite rod like you find in the radios you then wind wire round the rod till you have the same resistance if you have an inductance meter you can measure the inductance of your coil and the resistance now you have to try and make a matching coil (I find that it works best like this) using the ferrite rod as a support. If you are using a VLF detector then you will have to make a pin-pointer you can make a very simple one using the BFO technology or with PI but that will be more work.

All the best Xavier        PS Don't ever buy a Labtec wireless keyboard or mouse they are totally useless (rubbish)
.

A ferrite rod antenna with the same resistance as the original coil may actually catch fire, Xavier. The smaller wire will be the reason. I wish people wouldn't put so much importance on resistance. The frequency is dependent on the inductance. The resistance is the ability of the coil to absorb the power of the field applied to it. In a PI detector, that can be 200 to 300 volts in some cases with a current of 20ma. That's enough to cause some serious heat is small diameter wire. I just don't know how to make this any clearer. Resistance is meaningless and should be ignored unless it is too LOW. The lower the resistance, the more potential for damage to both the circuit and the coil.

GD he dose not have an inductance meter the only reference that I can give him is the resistance. The one that I build did get warm so I added a resistor of 100R in series with the coil and it's working great now.

Coffee Drat, am I causing problems again  Crazy I have the Garrett ace 250 detector which would love an inline probe..... I have a multimeter for Ω  Great but not an Inductance meter... What I would do is to start with my toy BFO detector first, then the Tesoro before I touched the Ace... But it is the Ace in the end that I would like to have the probe on....
I guess, then what I need is the inductance meter?Huh?Wise
Guys, how about writing up a tutorial that can help me and also that I can place on my website for others?Huh? that would be great  Clapp Both of you have great knowledge in this area....

Akiwi, welcome to our small group of misfits  Hello we do have good fun here, and as you can see, I also stir the trouble  Grin but I love it.... You can also sign up on my website, there is some good stuff on there.

There is no direct relationship between inductance and resistance. His coil may not work at all. Giving him a resistance value is like telling you to adjust your detector while eating vanilla ice cream rather than chocolate.

He loves it when I talk dirty back to him, mate.
