clog clips, never heard of such but it sounds like something the Dutch would use.........Here we go......When I was a poor boy and we couldn't afford shoe laces I cut up a coat hanger bent a hook on both ends and used it to keep my shoes on.

x- I never had any luck welding cast iron. Probably because I didn't preheat it. I welded the exhaust manifold on my first car and it fell apart. Haven't tried it since then.  I'm told there are two kinds of cast iron, one welds pretty well and the other doesn't. Know anything about that?

Gambol, funny enough the clog clips are found pretty frequently in the UK  Great I would like to find the other half now.... That would be great to have a complete pair  Clapp I do not think it is a Dutch fashion, as these are not the wooden clogs that the Dutch use.... I guess one day some guy with a detector will walk around your neighbourhood and come across little wire clips and say "I found a Gambol clog clip"  Funny Funny Funny Funny could be worth millions  Laughing

As for the welding, you get cast Iron and cast Steel.... the steel is easier to weld than the iron. My iron is cast steel which you can see by the shiny look against the blacker look of the iron... Your manifold would of be a browner color due to the heating of it over time mixed with rust. Cast iron is easily broken as it cannot handle bending as such, but is very strong.... Cast steel is more malleable and can handle some bending and is also very strong  Welcome

Clapp Well done professor Peter could not have said it better my self.
Gambol there are three very important thing to remember when welding cast iron One You must have the right welding rod and the transformer must be set correctly (I like a hight amperage) also if you can it's a good idea to chamfer the side for the weld.  two you must heat it red hot and if possible have someone heat it while you are welding and thirdly it must cool down slowly and that's all there is to it.  Great

Go Up Go Down

Pgill, today was the big day! I got up at 5:00 AM this morning went to the beach before daylight. It was nice, quite cool and nobody to watch me except 5 or 6 other metal detector guys and gals.  I worked 2 and a half hours and found all sorts of junk and a few clad. I give the Tesoro 3 thumbs up for surf hunting. It's quite and it finds everything......Especially bobby (hair) pins. I stopped counting after 10.   Cool

xavier, I can do this and as soon as I find a suitable material for a handle and a cast iron rod, I will show the results.

X - Tesoro rules!!!  Nice little pick and shovel pin. That must be a souvenir from a gold mine or diamond mine tour. you and I both had 'pin' days I got hair pins you got the real pins. Speaking of pins have you seen this?
