X, you ate my lunch, and still want my beer  Angry

Had a great day out today and found some good stuff unlike my partner  Funny Funny Funny I found a cover from a pocket watch which when I got home cleaned it to find it was silver  Great Research on the net shows me it is Swiss made, 0.935 Silver, dated 1850 - 1860  Wink and sold for 1 pound 10 shillings  Clapp also found an Iron, buttons, buckles and a cycle license disc from 1936.... Oh and a 1942 1/2 penny (South African) with a hole drilled into it to put on a chain  No no! Also found bullet cases and a clog clip  Great Also found an old pocket knife, but it is buggered  Grin Grin Grin

This is truly an amazing site as there are finds from different years...

Yesterday while detecting, we could see the rain pouring down about 250m away from us, but all we got was some drops  Great today is 11 degrees celsius.... cold  Shame all wrapped up and ready for church  Great the whole of the coming week is going to be cold for us  No no!

Another nice find was the "British South African Police" button I found.... cleaned up looks pretty good....

That button was great, but that piece of silver is also fantastic.... very decorative  Great I am happy with all the finds  Kiss I am thinking that maybe some of the finds might even be deeper due to meerkat activity, that ground is so loose, stuff could sink quite a lot... what we need is a deep seeker with discrimination to cut out the wire and mineralization... There is still a lot more to this site than what we even know about  Wise

I was having a look on Google earth at that site and I'm quite sure that the stuff that we find did not come directly from the fort. I think that soil was moved from were ever and dumped there possibly from when they build the road that would explain why we are finding stuff from three different times all at one place I also think that we have yet to find the real treasure trove.

X, I still think that site is going to give up something of great financial reward  Kiss That main part of the field is definitively from the fort time, but those other patches are like you said probably dump sites.... I believe that inside that area where I found the coins, there is lots more to find  Great
Arfieboy, you are very right, it was cold, but fun... I did take video, but the wind was blowing so much that it has too much wind noise to watch. Next time we go, I will video the site again and put it up on YouTube  Great

Hey Peter I think that I have found gold. I will post a photo of it as soon as I get some batteries for my camera. The funny thing is it was in my bag with all the junk that I found and has been there for the past few months LOL but tonight I was looking through the bag to see if I did not have another horse shoe then found that piece and with closer inspection I saw that it was shiny. Brass or copper would have oxidised but not this and now that I have the dirt off it I'm quite sure that it is gold.
