Ok Ladies  Funny went detecting with X and one of his workers (first time out). Went back to the Boer war site again.... There are 3 generations of finds there, 1890's, 1920"s, and 1940's - 1950's, Found lots of goodies and had fun. Of course showing X's worker how to use the detector, the very first find was a big buckle. He also found a "British South Africa Police" lid,,,,,, talk about beginners luck  Clapp I think X will post some photo's....

Ok Viking, guess what? I found a axe head  Grin Grin Grin first one ever  Great also found 3 buckles, a Johannesburg municipal license disc from 1924, a 1942 1/2 penny (South African) and another old beer bottle stopper from the 1890's, plus lots of bullet cases..... Oh and not to forget a 1971 Datsun 240Z toy car  Shocked Also 2x US Buttons, what the hell they were doing here is for research.... Can you US guys date these buttons?  Idea

The pin-pointer is finished, and already it is broken  (switch erratic) Idiot lucky there is a guarantee for repairs on it  Funny then X's worker broke my digging axe  No no! can you believe it.... At least X's new detector seems to be working pretty well, makes a change  Laughing

NICE HUNT!!!! Those are some awesome finds, I like the way the soil up there seems to preserve the stuff much better. I'm also dealing with years and years of fertilizers I guess.
I too went out again today and found some coins and shtuff!! Rained the whole time lol! Fun stuff Wink
I got 3 silvers for the day, 1943 tickey was out of the ground first and looked like it was dropped yesterday. Then I found the 6d from 1938 as well as another tickey that is presently boiling away in the Electro bath.
Both the 6d and Tickey where encrusted, pitch black and completely unreadable......but they clean up so nice!  Also found another two old plain buttons and something that looks like a lead coin...or token of sorts
I will electrolyse it later, cause there looks like there may be some detail there.

AHHHHHHHHH NNNOOOOOOO, I just pulled the tickey out of the bath and I missed the jackpot by one year!!!!!!! It's a 1932, seriously crying into my coffee here, ag no man.
There is a 1931 going for R70 000 at SA Coin.

Anyway, I also found another iron piece but it's more modern, it's still on the back of my pick up .Also another buckle , it's iron and in the furnace as we speak hehe! Should come out nice but it's very badly rusted and was exposed so it's flaking to hell. Will post the other finds of the weekend later....it's all sorts of bits and pieces that I still need to sort through.

Hi Viking,

You also got some great finds today... I wish I could find more coins... I did find a 1943? 1/2 penny SA, but in very bad condition. All my finds have been cleaned already... But yes, we are lucky to have the finds in a good condition  Great You can use Silver paper to clean silver coins... Just wrap th coin in the silver paper loosely and drop it into a bowl of hot water and some soap powder... this is also another form of electrolysis....

Okay the lead thing cleaned up very quick and exceptionally well, but alas there is no detail to be seen. It weighs 11.5grams......can't really find anything that matches.
It looks nice and is heavy in the hand.I'm happy.
I'm using bicarbonate of soda and it works really well.

That lead cleaned up well  Great wonder what it was  Idea I also found some lead yesterday, but I found a small brass wire brush in hot water worked well.... The brass brush is not too course, and it was fishing sinkers so little scratches did not matter Grin Grin Grin

Did I tell you how X attacked me yesterday  No no! I was minding my own business, not saying a word  Shocked and he took paper and made it into a ball (hard one) and through it straight in my friggin eye  Angry as you can guess, my eyes watered instantly  Cry I just thought I would let you ladies know how he treats his friends  Toilet At least you can now see gets the abuse  Hello

Lord Dracon, thanks for that link and info.. Very interesting  Great It adds to the excitement of the site as the main part and across the road from this field is Boer war 1890's.... In the field along a treeline, I have found 2 coins, 1942 and 1939? 2nd World war time, then I found a toy car that the original car was built in 1971, and further down the trees were these buttons, so maybe they are from the 2nd world war along with the coins  Idea nothing I have found is 1st world war that I can tell. The Boer war ended at the time when these buttons were first manufactured, I also cannot find where the US soldiers were part of the Boer war  Coffee It is interesting to see that this site has many generations of finds.... Hey on my first hunt of this site, a friend found a musket hammer  Idea

I have copied the chart for further use also... Just thinking, X also found a US button (same) at another Boer war site  No no! now I am confused....

Occassionally, I will not let X near a newspaper as he would kill me with it  Beheading he treats me BAD, very BAD....  Cry my eye is still sore  Shocked
