Standby by Pete, I'm going to post now now

Posted on: June 20, 2012, 04:00:12 PM
Some pics, not great but done in a hurry.

Posted on: June 20, 2012, 04:25:55 PM
Some more,

Posted on: June 20, 2012, 04:27:47 PM
Cool huh, for just under 3 hours.
Conditions are heavy oak and poplar roots and thick clay soil that's pretty wet at the moment.
Believe it or not this is found with my CZ21......about 20 km inland!
Sorry about the coin pic, I'm battling to get a good pic, I'll put some more up just now.

Coin is 10.7 grams and 30mm across give or take a mm.

Posted on: June 20, 2012, 04:33:25 PM
I took some more pics quickly, holding it in my hand to try and get the light to catch it right, but it comes out a bit shaky.

Viking, Good finds. Do you know what that coin is. The man looks like a Louie of France. The AX looks old. I'd like to see it cleaned up and hafted. Gambol

Pgill, Glad to see you and x-man are still getting along splendidly! I wouldn't bug him about the pinpointer this weekend. hint hint. He's going to have his .44!
No detecting in Florida, Too hot and rainy. Makes you wonder about Bombay if everyone metaldetects there. Gambol

x-man, Maybe you got a component  that is mislabeled. It happens rarely but, I worked in a Electronics assembly factory for a while and those were sometimes difficult to analyze. Good luck with the machine this weekend and with Pgill too.

Viking, those are great finds  Great You should put all the flat tops into a frame to show off all the different types, that could be quite nice  Grin The axe needs some electrolysis, but I think it will come out quite nicely  Clapp Now, that coin is another thing  Idea definitely not British, but looks pretty old  Kiss could be some gold there also  Funny Funny Funny

Gambol, you will probably find that X has all his diodes going the wrong way, like they are in his brain  Laughing I think he should forget about that detector as I am a good friend and will still let him borrow my other good detector.... But he can still carry on with the pin-pointer as he was doing well with that  Funny the only .44 X has, is the lead in his pencil  Shocked

Hi Guys
No I'm pretty sure it's one of these, the shield is in the same position, and the distance from the head to the edge and size of the coin are also the same.
Any details on how to go about sorting the axe head out? It's pretty badly rusted up and has quite a lot of conglomeration on it.
Sorry but what is "hafted". I'll google it in the meantime.

Hey Viking,

So it is British  Great I was thinking later so did not think of that  Idea wow that is great.... Well you had me fooled, I could of swore it was not British, but hey only X is perfect  Funny Funny Funny wonder why that coin was there?

The only way to work with that axe-head  is electrolysis  Great it should clean up pretty well.... I believe the  liquid molasses trick also does the job  Great Great but does it stink  Grin
