Ok guys, don't abuse my detector
Had a great day today. Went to a place called "Fredrick Staad" where the Scottish / British had a artillery position on a hill (Big Toms) surrounding them on other hills were the Boers. In November 1900, 2000 Boers attacked the Scottish / British with artillery and gunfire this lasted backwards and forwards between them for 5 days, in the end it was a draw battle.
Today we climbed the hill to the Scottish / British posts and searched the gun positions
it was great fun. We found .303 shells, pieces of the gun frames, and the chap I went with found a Scottish military badge. We then walked down to an old building which was a "Toll House" for the horse and carts, then to automobiles
inside the building the floor boards had been pulled up, so this is where I searched
I found about 5 .303 shells and a silver plated heart shaped match safe
check the photo's. Looking at the net, the same type of boxes are from the 1890's to the 1900's this is the right time for this item
This is one of my best finds with metal detecting.
So all together I had a fantastic day out
