Hi Viking,

Nice to see you online, and wow look at all the finds, they are fantastic  Great love that pirate button  Kiss and the lead brooch could be 1800's as that sort of thing was popular in those days, but what it is doing where you found it is a mystery  Idea hey maybe a 1800's visitor from England on holiday lost it  Wise some of the other stuff is great also...

X, you need to get that machine finished,,,, no pressure  Funny Funny Funny Funny

I'm working on it mate got most of the coil sorted out today and now that I have the scope life making coils just got that much easier  Kiss I did not have much time today as I was on deck duty (Cleaning the cottage) then I went out with the kids to play tenpin bowling  Grin I even managed to get the ball to go onto the other side of the gutter to the other players side man that was a laugh but I still won did three strikes my sister did two. I must say that I was quite surprised to win as I have not played that game in 20 years in fact I think that it's even longer than that. Viking tell me what is the depth that you can detect a R5.00 coin with your machine? and what is the price in Rand? also do you have any second hand machines for sale?

How is that fancy scope working? Hope it is good  Great Ten pin bowling? the last time I played that was my Rhodesian days while on RnR from the army  Hello great game when you do get the ball rolling in the right place   Funny Funny it is bad when you win even though you cannot even get the ball to do what is right  Shocked

Hey X.
Okay a water machine like the Cz or Xcal is going to set you back between R12000 and R14000. The Cz 21 is rated to 250ft and as a diver you know that is ridiculous but anyway! It also has a lifetime warranty!
It breaks , I send it in an they fix and send back or if it's something like headphones , they replace free but there may be a little shipping.
Okay , depth....R5 I would say up to 40 cm......that is if it's lying right , as it turns on edge you lose some depth but a fast sweep will ping it! the Xcaliber is better on the adjustment side , you can tweek it better and it runs a double d coil at multiple frequencies......in other words it's a bloody good machine as well.
My scoop pulls out 10kg of wet sand in a full scoop.....last night I took 11 scoops to pull up half a samsung cellphone that was maybe 100x50mm. Put it this way X, I'm not worried about depth much , I get more results from trying to improve my technique , knowledge of the way beaches work and really putting in the time.
Finish a detector and send it to me for a week...I'll test it and let you know what's what. Wet sand actually tends to amplify signals, so all you need is a good stable machine with reasonable depth and off you go mate! If it doesn't give ghost/false signals in the wet all the time  and you can air test it on a R2 coin to 15-20 cm.......it's a usable machine Detecting Detecting Detecting Detecting Detecting
I can find out for you about a second hand one.....let me know what budget range to look but  in I recon second hand you should look at R6500-R8500.

Glad you like the finds......Damn this hobby gives me so much pleasure!!! Kiss Kiss Kiss

Pgill.......my son went ape shit when he saw that button! He's in a bit of a pirate phase! When I saw it this morning ,  and rinsed it off I was like........Matthew is gonna freak out man! Bushpig found a pair of cute yellow sunglasses for his daughter.....he also had a good bag and I can swear he found a fragment of an ancient coin as well......Spanish pillar dollar type looking thing!
When I get home the kids always run out and grab my bag ......"What did you buy at the beach daddy!" lol My daughter loves all the bling dress jewellery. The finds pictured here where found between 5pm and 2am this morning.......I'm dedicated baby!
I would love to know what that lead thing is....sometimes you find a piece like this and at first sight you know......this one's going to bug me! I have no idea what i have just found but it's COOL!!! Cheesy

Hi Viking, you need to look more into that brooch  Great all similar types that I can find on the net are from Roman, Anglo Saxon....

The description for the photo below is as follows:

A post medieval cast lead alloy or pewter object, possibly a brooch. The object comprises a central low boss surrounded by six smaller bosses. One of the outer bosses has an inset tiny blue glass bead and each of the others also has a setting for a similar bead. Between each of the outer bosses is a pair of pellets, and a group of three lines which join each boss. On the back is a central casting line and two centrally-placed circular stubs. There is otherwise no trace of fixing.

I know this does not show your exact brooch, but this is the period that makes the type that you found..... Drop the graphic that you took into a Google.com searchbox....

I think X could give you a  Sheep or  Sheep Sheep for a detector  Great his sheep have lifetime guarantees, that is until they end up on the plate  Funny Funny Funny Funny On a serious side though  Cheesy Cheesy X has worked hard on getting a good detector going and if somebody is going to succeed, it will be him  Clapp Clapp Clapp

Ok, now that hard part is out the way  Crazy X you need to stop playing with the sheep and get building.... He thinks the sheep are dogs, he takes them for a walk daily  Sheep Sheep Sheep Sheep Sheep Sheep Touch Touch Touch

Hi Viking

Thanks for the info. The reason why I asked you the depth that you can detect a R5.00 coin if to be able to visualise the way that it would work on the beach and lets face it, you do need depth if you are going to detect on the dry part more so the higher up from the water line You know the part where the good people tend to sit when the tide is high. Any how I was busy with the coil when the thing started to behave in a strange way well turns out to be the battery the is completely discharged so now I will do some programming for another project.

Hey Peter bad news man I've placed an electric fence round the sheep pen so next time you come and visit DON'T go running strait to them you may just have a shocking experience  Cheesy   On a more serious note though I'm not having much luck with this VLF OK well got to go will catch you guys later.
