Hi JbayMike,

Welcome to this mad group, some more than  and don't let anyone tell you different others..... Oh, I am the sane one of the group  Hello

I also have a Ace 250 that I use, and am getting into it pretty well... It is a good machine, and does well Great The pinpointing is a bit awkward to get used to, and the depth meter is not accurate, at least that is what I have found  No no! but I do not use the meter much anyway. I have been more into Boer war stuff as Jhb does not have a beach for some strange reason  Idea

X, has done some beach work as well as Viking when he comes on.... so they are the experts in that field..... If you need to know about sheep and mad cows, then X is the person  Idiot  Crazy

Enjoy the great fun on this forum, we could do with another nutter in the group  Grin  Funny  Laughing Look forward to hearing some of your detecting stories...  Great

Shocked the poor bloke just got here and you're already scaring him away  Club NO wonder there's just a hand full off us. Any way Jaybaymike I actually live in the Marina Martinique but I'm running my brother in law's farm up in this terrible place called the golden city (There is no sea here even the mine dunes are gone) come to think of it I can't even call this place a dump any more.  I'd love to have your details so that when I come down to J-Bay for a holiday (Put things back into perspective) we could meet up and go detecting together.   Great    By the way welcome aboard   Welcome

Hi JbayMike!  Welcome to the S.A. forum!  I'm from the Blue Mountains of northeastern Oregon, in the U.S. but I drop in once in a while to hear these guys talk to each other and harrass each other.  Once in a while I throw in a comment or two.    Welcome                   Detecting

Hi Arfieboy, like the avatar  Great looks like a great dog.... any great finds on your side of the world?

Hey X, all the dumps are disappearing so I guess it is not a dump any longer  Kiss but sure would be great if they made beaches out of them  Wise

Hi Guys, I found the post a few pages back about the bulls and cows amusing. Iv'e had a few close calls myself. One time my brother and I were fly fishing up a small stream in the country.
It had started to get dark and we left out return a bit late. Half way back to the car it was virtually pitch black and we could hear these cattle charging around us!  That was a tad nerve racking.
I think they was just curious to us being on there turf ? Anyways we made it back safe  Cool

Hi Peter.  Thanks for the comment on my avatar.  That is the real  ArfieBoy.  He is a great buddy and friend!  He turned 9 years old on December 11.

No great finds so far.  It is still winter here!  In the last three days we have had snow, heavy rains and today the wind is blowing furiously.  Blow you away, it will!            Grin                                  Detecting

Arfieboy, winter is not good.... ours is coming in the next Month or so  Angry so the hot weather we are having now is short lived. We are having one hell of a lot of rain though... Winter is going to be very cold this year  Thumbs Down

Goldnboy, I think those cattle thought you were there for other reasons, mean what else do you do at night in the field  Grin Grin Grin I think most of us have had strange things happen in cattle fields  Wise X, just happens to like them  Laughing I am going to be seeing X on Sunday afternoon, hope he has got the sheep clearing the high grass ready for detecting?

Jbay mike, Welcome buddy.....leave your sanity at the door and come inside!
Okay guys here is a story that has given me a few sleepless nights!
My hunting buddy....Bushpig has always wanted a camper......the itch has gotten pretty bad of late and so he decided to bank all the coins he has collected.....a few 2 l ice cream tubs full,
Anyway I get a frantic call at about 11pm the other night....."Are you on the net?" he asks.......YES ....."please look up a coin for me its got a 1898 date with a funny "r" after it and it looks Russian........."
It's a flippen gold coin....5 roubels in near perfect condition............it was in amongst the 20c pieces. Why sleepless nights?......well we have no damn idea where it came from!
Not even what site.....inland or coast.
The coin shines and is 4.3g (quite heavy) and that's the only way he noticed it..........
I'm so pissed off at this point! I told him he has to catch a f*&^ wake up!
Anyway I'll get a few pics and post soon.
Viking

Thanks for the welcomes guys!

I've been converting my clad to old silver one rands every time there's a hundred rand or so in the piggy bank. Still a long way to go for a camper though....I'm hoping to use it to upgrade my detector one day.

We're getting some good waves here in Jeff's today, hopefully some sand will be shifted. Yesterday I only managed one coin, and that was better than the previous day!

Jbaymike :No man that can't be right, is there a lot of sand up on the beach? If you want to upgrade your machine one day , let me know. I sell Fisher,Teknetics and Bounty Hunter.
We usually come away with between 30 and R100. Down at the sea, you actually want to be in the water. I don't think the ace 250 will like the wet sand though, do you have any picnic areas/ parks etc?
Also , not sure how long you have been at it, but when on the beach....dig everything....when you get a target start spiralling outwards around it....coins are not alone most of the time.....usually they spill out in a given area.
