Arfieboy, the book I am writing is a journal type book on the sites I have detected with a write-up about the site, and photos of the site and what was found. I have done 50 pages so far.... It is more for my own records as I have been trying to find a great way to catalogue my sites and finds....  Great

People do those logs of what finds where all the time.

I look at them as a waste of time.

Too many, too many places and in the end makes not sence.

Your Idea sounds cool.

At least you have a record of sorts of the locations and what it looked like in the past.

Go back and 5 years and it may not look anything like it did.

Homie, you are 100% right... some of my sites do not exist already which makes it all the more fun, as now I have photo records of what they did look like when they were there  Great I always put a Google earth photo as my first photo with the co-ordinates of the site, that way you can see what the place looked like from above, then I put in normal photo's of the structures... then do a write up about the site. Lastly I do a photo / write-up about all the finds from this site. I must say, it does make good reading, but I can also look back at what I have done.  Detecting

Yes I saw his book and it looks great, he has a lot of photos with some text (Mind you he can't spell) and I really am considering to keep some thing like Peter did so that like you said, in the future I can look and see how the site has changed.

Pgill......I have the same idea, but I'm doing a coffee table book on hunting the tidal pools of the Cape. Underwater shots, the works. I really need to get a diving suit, my wetsuit is not doing the job......freezing in the water this weekend. Got 2 rings and R92 in change. The one ring is 9ct with a stone......probably a blerry cubic ne?
Here are some pics.....found one spot on a slope at the waters edge (4 square meters......6 max) where I pulled out 37 One rand coins, a silver plated ring and about 20 bucks in 2's and 5's. Bushpig had to go to a braai so we had to can it early.....he got a junk ring (bloody nice one mind you) R74 and some other small costume jewellery.
I pulled another six bucks out of the tidal pool......then my nuts had had enough hahaha! Seriously cold!
The beach was busy and I had a crowd of at least 5 people at any given time.....buzzing me with questions and praising my activities for their sheer entertainment value!
People are so curious, some times I tell them we are counting prawns for a biological census, or we're looking for a murder weapon or checking radiation levels. This weekend I used The "we are trying to relocated a sand snail that we have collared with a tracking device.....and we are very worried because he has been missing for a week", please help by keeping a lookout for one wearing a red collar! It helps to have a laugh from time to time.
Ok well enjoy the pics ....
Rhino problem could be solved by organising a well paid and well equipped anti poaching unit. I worked with an outfit on the Swazi border and they where very effective....and they shoot first and then ask questions.....I actually nearly joined them but they where disbanded shortly before I finished my service.

Peter, that's a very nice sample from your book!  Thanks for sharing that.  Looking back at what was when you were there is a great thing to do.  Like Homie said, a lot of the buildings that were there a few years ago are now gone due to various reasons.  I was lucky that when I was roaming the gold fields and camps here in northeastern Oregon back in the 1970's and '80's that I took lots of pictures and wrote articles about them.  A lot of those sites are so changed that you wouldn't recognize them now.  New growth, destruction by nature and man, so on and so forth are the reasons.  One site I re-visited in the 90's was so change I actually got disoriented there!

Hey Viking, nice finds!  I love your answers to people asking questions!  That's funny!                        Detecting

Arfieboy, it took me a while to work out,,,, and a big job to put it together  Shocked when I am finished, I will go over each site again to see if there is anything else to add before I finalize the project and then start on book 2  Cheesy
