Grin Grin I sure can see the picture I started the build of that VLF I made a coil of 3mH RX and TX now I need to decide if I'm going to leave it at 9Khz or if I'm going to bring it up (using a .1uF) what do you think? the first one that I build was running at 16Khz

16Khz is good for Jewlery and even smaller nuggets.   1/4  1/2 gram or so...   Yea!

Can you all Prospect down there or is that a NO NO?

Well if you can get a license then yes other wise it's a NO NO but at the end of the day metal detecting is not forbidden and I sure cant help it should find a gold nugget now can I. So now what must I do? put it back  Grin Grin I don't think so but I would go back to that same spot over and over again.   I was doing some calculations with a capacitance of 0.03uF I would get 16Khz

Why so much differance?

Have you tried this little circuit?

You just hook it up to your coil and check the output with a freq meter.

You can adjust the Res with C.

Hey that's nifty I must look into making one of them. Quote (Why so much difference?) the TX is 24cm and RX 12cm so to get the same inductance it works out to about 120 turns mind you that the coil is jumble wound so it could be 157 turns I just wound and did a test with the inductance meter but it's normally about twice the amount of turns.

X, just want to let you know.... that whirly symbol on the circuit diagram on Homies photos are NOT springs but coils  Wise I would hate to see your detector bounce away from a good find  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

One day you will find something really good and I want to be there to shake your hand, you do deserve a good find  Welcome mind you that button and your badge are good finds  Great

Hope the rain stays away for Sunday  Great looking forward to our trip  Detecting Detecting

Ddaaaaaaaaa!     OOOps.

We should be doing this on the other threads so maybe other could learn.

Yea,   I need the FET's.   Don't have any in stock any place.

You could figure out the Impedance easy with that set up.

Just wind, Clip on the wire , test.

If not enough keep winding.  Little clip marks on the wire ain't going to hurt.
