Shocked You just don't have a detector that can detect at 300mm + that's why but if you're nice to me I'll lend it to you for a day or so and you may just find that there are thing's where you have been. Ho by the way ArfieBoy don't worry about us it's just a love hate thing LOL you should see him when we are out detecting together He is the nicest guy you could ever meet (I'm wearing the gun)  Grin Grin Grin OK on a more serious note I have started work on the new detector. I have finished with the pulsing side of the design and it works rather well I'm using a pic16f877 as the heart of the detector it will be a dual coil instead of a single coil detector (PI) the main reason why it's dual coil is for the discrimination (Don't quite know how I'm going to go about it yet but I do have a plan)

All the best
Xavier PS will let you know the out come

I will admit, if I need coins from Australia, I would use your detector  Great Arfieboy, believe me we do have great fun when detecting.... we have to, he is bigger than me  Fight
X, sounds like a good detector on it's way I hope it works out for you. I have not heard much on discrimination for these machines as it seems it just does not work well, so not sure what to suggest on that problem except for you to make a vlf machine.

VLF are great machines but its hell to get the coil just right in-fact if it was not for the complexity of the coil one could get a machine build in a day or two all that you need is an LC circuit and a simple receiver set to the same frequency then for the discrimination you need three comparators and you're done. There you will have a simple machine capable to find a coin at 150mm and it will only cost you about R150.00  Maybe I should put one together just for the fun of it all, I could pass it on to my nephew should he want it.

All the best X

Jump in and make a VLF, then you will have the best of both worlds.... maybe then you will find something other than wire  Mad  Seriously though, I think it would be a great detector for you to make  Great make it waterproof also and you can water search also.

Pgill and xavier, I'm glad to see you two having a good time taking shots at each other. Or should I say Peter taking shots and X-man deflecting them.   Xavier, speaking of deflecting or should I say detecting. You say VLF units use comparitors to achieve the discrimination. These are voltage comparitors? What voltage source do they compare? I thought the Iron-not Iron was a phase thing.  Undecided
