Xavier, Have you got raccoon in SA? or is that a New World Critter? I have a serous raccoon problem. They are smart little critters and can get around an electric fence in a heartbeat. They know to stay off the wires and dig under it. I've reworked the fence added wires and put rocks around the posts and I'm just waiting for the next. 'coon attack!  Raccoons have a nasty habit of taking a dump in any body of water they happen to be near. This isn't good if you are trying to raise high quality aquatic plants like I am. Also if you have a swimming pool or fish pond in your yard a raccoon will relieve themselves in it. I solved the problem with my fish pond. I have a pump with a short in it. I found out about the short after something, I'm guessing a big bull raccoon, stepped into the pond. It looked like a tornado hit the pond. He tore the plants out of the pond knocked over the fountain and tore it up. I'm guessing everytime he stepped out with that wet foot on the ground he got a nasty shock and jumped back in. I haven't had a raccoon problem with that pond since then.  Great

Pgill, It looks like you had a good hunt New Years. Interesting buckle. I had one on a back pack in the army of the same design. The Extra loop was for the strap that held your blanket.  That blockhouse looks like a place you could go back time after time and find more good stuff. The rocks on the ground and the brush must make it a challenge. Do you have a small coil? I find it is indispensable when I have those conditions. I was out today at a new site that is covered with weeds. The 5" coil let me hunt the part of the site where the weeds were more than 5" apart. I found nothing today but it was the first trip. When I go back I'll have my lawn mower.  Also used a GPS to find the site for the second time ever. I located a house on a 1938 aerial photo. It was gone by 1957. I got the coordinates by superimposing the photo on a modern GIS map. The coordinates took me right to it. I knew I was there because the ground was full of iron there and nowhere else. This one may have burned down or else the people buried their junk in their yard. Ha Ha !.

Hi Gambol,

This site is fantastic although we have more or less cleaned it out  Great signals are not that much anymore, at least not the good stuff  Grin it is now time to ove onto another site. The ground was fantastic or digging on as the soil mixed with stone was soft, we are used to digging ground like concrete  No no! Maps and a Gps are a great combination, along with Google Earth which I have found many sites with. Google Earth is great whe used with the timeline function, as you can go back in time. In the UK, you can go back to 1945 in most parts.....

Hi Gambol1

Well I'm not to sure what a raccoon is but we have a very clever little guy called a meerkat in fact they make great pets if you can catch one that is very young. I had one when I was diving on the west coast, saved my life he did there was a snake with horns about three feet form my bear feet, this little guy went right at him and killed him had I not had him as a pet that snake would have bit me and with the distance to the nearest hospital I probably would not have made it. One thing about them though is that they are very good thieves LOL he use to steal food out of my plate while I was conversing with some one.

Pgill one thing is sure I do take better photos that you, and that with your camera.   Grin

So now tell me when are we going on a new site?Huh?Huh?Huh?(I'll take more photos of you LOL)

Nice finds from the blockhouse guys!  No detecting for me over New Year's day.  Spent about a weeks vacation in Reno, NV with my wife.  I don't gamble much but she enjoys it.  I went to a couple of pawn shops looking for metal detectors, but they didn't have any.  Oh well, I don't really need anymore anyway.  Apparently after last year, I don't need any! LOL.  Continued good hunting to you!    Detecting

Grin Grin Grin I have a feeling that there is some one close to me that is looking for very big trouble AND I mean VERY big trouble

Hi ArfieBoy

Nice to hear from you again Peter is jealous that I take better photos than what he does and that my detector picks up metal (Ferrous and non ferrous) at great deaths. Mind you he dose have a point all the stuff that we find is no deeper than 150mm and a VLF is an advantage with the discrimination and all BUT one day I will take out a gold coin that he missed because of his discrimination. Just the other day I found a Badge (Cricket) that was under a piece of metal  (I'm sure that Peter went right over it LMAO) Peter  Angry Me  Cheesy
