Pgill, looked at your hunt pictures. It looked like the perfect day for a hunt and that looks like an interesting place to hunt. You ever find any placer gold around there?

I went out this morning. Temperature was 92F, 85% humidity. I checked out 2 sites I have been curious about. One was a Fair field. The grass was too high to hunt. The other was piles of foundation dirt. It came from new houses being built in what was a Tourist park in 1940's. Found a pewter dish , 4 clad pennies. I lasted about an hour before it got too hot. Went out again at dusk to a site I work on a regular basis. Its an area covered with foundation dirt that was a tram rail track in the 1800s  and then a country road before it was bypassed in the 1950s.  Found $1.20 clad and a brass cattle tag before it got dark.

Xavier, The coil is fixed! It's a Fisher F75 VLF. I knew what happened as soon as it shorted out. about 5 minutes after I put it in salt water I got a strong coin signal then it went into overload and when I pulled it out of the water it was still in overload. Doh! The little chamber on the back of the coil that contains the connections and a 33M resistor had a leak. I poped the cover off with a pocket knife and there was a drop of water on the resistor. As I remember the conducivity of sea water was about 5 S/m. I washed it off with DI water and dried it well then glued the cover back on. I learned a lesson there. Don't use a screwdriver to drive a nail.

Grin Grin Well at least all is well now but I'm curious how well does your VLF perform in salt water? Do you get a false signal when you pull it out of the water?

All the best
Xavier

Hi Gambol, our gold is very deep veins.... we have one of the deepest mines here where I live... We look at km's down...  Wise scary stuff. The place where we get panning gold is mainly a place called Pilgrims rest and Barberton.... You cannot exactly just walk in there and pan, you have to get a licence, and also it is a historical monument.... so as a tourist, you can pan but it costs, and you cash in the gold at the end of the day... you cannot carry raw gold around. This is what I hate, as I would love to just go in and come back with a small bottle of gold....

Glad to hear that your coil is ok,,,, that is worrying..... I stay away from the water with my detectors  Amen

Go Up Go Down

Hi Guys
Okay lets play catch up for a minute. I have been through what a lot of comedies......and tragedies...... are written about. Anyway the long and the short of it was that I gave up my premises and set up a home workshop/studio. Its actually friggen cool 'cause now all the stuff that has needed doing is getting done.....because I have all my equipment at hand.
On the other side I am involved in the shop fitting business and that is also going well. I'll be on a round the country build again next month.
Okay so noooo ......time for detecting. Selling a few though!
Now enough about me!
Xavier
I have still not sorted that jar out yet mate, thanks ever so much for the sample, it looks very nice! I see you doing well there with the detecting....nice shells and stuff old boy!
You are making the new detector water proof right? I think it would be prudent ,what with all the rain!
Thanks for the pictures you sent of the Veldspond that you found, SERIOUSLY I CANT BELIEVE YOUR LUCK! Beats my 2 sovereigns hands down.......OH Sh@#.....did I just say that online?

PGill
I have been meaning to call you for so long, I get your messages but something always comes up and then I end up not getting back to you.
You need to send me that land line number of yours, at your work.
I see you have some enviable sites old chap. I may have to come and make a nuisance of myself.....give you a few pointers hehehehe!
I would love to test out the T2 there. See where that gold fell.....dig it up......and then run like hell! Wink
I know your type....you get that gold fever bad! Oh and don't take any notice of what I just said to Xavier.....I was just.....joking?

Silki
I'm glad that you are on the mend! And thanks for the pictures! That is the most awesome science...in my opinion. As someone who works with  my hands I am always amazed at the engineering within the human body.
I hope you don't mind but I would like to use those pictures to show my customers what can happen if you buy and swing an x caliber! :Smiley Funny
Take lots of oral medication and you will be fine in no time! I find that vodka works well.

About the F75 and the salt water....my T2 hates the wet sand and completely freaks out in the actual saltwater......but it is killer higher up on the beach. As far as I know, all our coils, that is Fisher and Teknetics, are waterproof. I have been in a stream with the T2 and it was definitely do able. Did fuss a little but I could get by.

Anyway, I will start posting and hunting again once I am all settled in. Nice chatting to ya"ll.

Viking

Veldspond that you found, SERIOUSLY I CANT BELIEVE YOUR LUCK! Beats my 2 sovereigns hands down.......OH Sh@#.....did I just say that online?

That wasn't me mate but I get your drift Peter must be blood red with fury by now. The UW detector is almost complete but the water proof casings seem to be more of a problem than I'd anticipated any how where there is a will there is a way.

Orca is back on the forum he will be down my way soon so there is a chance that we will get to meet (that would be great).

Ho yeh glad to hear that you have your new workshop all sorted out and that the moral is on a hight, this economy has been playing dirty tricks on all of us not to mention the politics that worries the crap out of me (Don't watch TV any more)

Pgill where is my programme? LOL  you have all day at work to finish it.

All the best
Xavier

X, because you did not show me the Veld pond, you will just have to be happy with my crap version of the database  Musican Play that on your Guitar  Great

As for the waterproof coils.... water is so cold at this time, I think the coils would run away if you tried to put them in the water  Shocked  Grin

Now get on with finishing that detector so that I can try it out  Detecting
