xavier, The lead pound sounds like a fair way to get around the rust problem however a pocket full of lead coins would no doubt pull your trousers down  Grin Grin I would like to see a photo of some of your rusty steel coins. We had a steel cent in 1943 to save copper for the war. When I was a kid they were common and we called them zinc pennies. I didn't know till just a few years ago they were actually galvanized iron.  I was thinking about starting a thread 'uglyst coin recovered' and offer a prize. I'm fairly sure I could win.  Grin

Pgill, After looking at your coins I've decided mine arn't all that ugly LOL! though ugly they are. My submissions are cleaned and uncleaned.

You having a manhole cover and copper theft problem too? I thought that was pretty much a U.S. thing. See: Drudge Report.

Hey Gambol, it looks like you guys have rats with very strong teeth.... those coins have chunks out of them  Laughing

Cable theft is very rife here..... the guys even climb the power cable poles in the streets and cut the cable with bolt cutter and run away with the cable..... all with a big bang and a flash....  Shame a few of these guys have been fried....
