You are right Xavier,,,, if I start flapping my arms now, I should get there for the hunt  Grin

I like the idea very much..... at least we can start getting information etc to try and start something, even if only here to start with.

Hi Pgill

I'm quite sure that there are quite a few South Africans that come on thunting but don't join thinking that it's not a South African forum and that they will not meet other South Africans to share information with, about the different areas in SA and where is best to hunt. When I came to thunting I did not find any other person from SA but now there are five of us if I'm not mistaken so hopefully some more will join us soon I think that I must place an add in the local news paper (could be a fun thing to do). I try and get people to take interest in the subject but it seems to be harder that to sell s#&t sometimes wonder what they are scared of? finding gold? remember that lots of things were hidden during the Boer war especially money and gold you just have to get to those old farms thats where most of it is hidden.

All the best
Xavier          PS keeping this thread alive may get us some new members from SA

The demise of MD clubs is common for a number of reasons. The smaller clubs don't seem to attract young members and the old guys eventually fall off the branch. The interest wanes as people get diverse interests. Club meeting places change often and members come and go. The biggest reason is mistrust. Even if you only tell your best friend about your favorite hot spot, when someone else come in after finding it for themselves, you begin to suspect that treachery has occurred. It's the nature of this hobby and profession. I even belonged to a club that took on a group project to recover a cache. Each member had tasking to do and it looked as if we had isolated it perfectly. When we got there, it was already recovered. Almost to a man (and woman), everyone believed that one of the team had gotten there ahead of everyone else. The wine from the sour grapes was just awful and the club was never the same again.

The clubs that last the longest are the ones that also provide service to their local area with fund raisers, sausage sizzles, carnivals, contests and open house days to reach the younger folks who might be interested but were afraid to ask.

I've lived all over this world of ours and I can guarantee you that these are common issues you will have to consider.

Hello All

Sadly People will come and go out of self interest. But as GD said it is human nature

But there is enough of you to start networking. Keep posting your wonderful stories, location pictures and history. You do not Have to give away exact spots but the more you inspire the more will come. Some will always take out of self interest but the real treasure is the most amazing people you will meet and network with along the way.

If you need any documents pertaining to South African treasure stories and legends please feel free to use what I have posted as that is what they are for.

5 good treasure hunters networking is better than a hundred squabbling self centered ones anyway.

Hardluck

Hi Hardluck

Thanks for the use of your info. What you say is true better 5 that do than 100 that do nothing. I have a few books that I must start reading and now may be a good time to start or stop putting it off till the next day  Smiley I think we're all guilty of doing that from time to time but the thing is that no matter how hard I try I still don't seem to be able to fit 25h in a 24h day  Wink and yet when you look at guys like GD they seem to be able to fit 30h in a 24h day I really must ask him what's his secret.  Smiley

All the best
Xavier
