Niobium,

My SD memory card has photos on it but when I try to transfer them to the computer a box pops up telling me the card is unreadable. I am able to view them still on my digital camera so the memory card is not completely broken. Do you think that if I reformat the memory card it might fix the problem?  I would just do it but than I would lose the pictures on the memory card before they were transferred.  Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

-farmdigger

My One Cent worth of Opinion: I'm no techie, but don't reformat the SD card while the photos are still in there  Shocked It will erase all recent memories in the card. From what your description is, I don't think the card is the problem. It may be the card reader on your computer or probably the software. Try another card reader. If that fails, then see if it can work on another computer. If that fails too, go to a computer dealer they have software to retrieve the file from damaged SD card. Trust me.

Hoped that Niobium will give you a better tip than mine. Smiley

Nuga Yoda,

Thanks for the advice. Come to think about it the laptop I was using was kinda old and junky. I'll try another computer to rule that out.

Thanks again!

farmdigger-

Possibly your memory card has become corrupted, try fresh batteries in the camera, connect it to your computer and perform a scandisk on the unit (i suppose that your camera pops up like an extra device example E:).

When card is empty, then reformat the memory card in the camera.

That should do the trick!

But if the same problem is repeating, then its time to get a new memory card, otherwise all your pictures may become corrupted and disappear.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Would it not be better to put it in General Discussion?

It is related to our hobby in a big way.

It would help everyone.

I geuess I will do it.

I hesitate because I know little

about cameras.

HH,

Tabdog

The hi-tech side of all of this is changing daily. 20 years ago I was a highly recruited electronic technician. Now I'm lost in cyberspace.....  Cheesy

Just be careful when reformatting your memory cards. Remember:

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Once you reformat your memory card... everything on it is gone forever! Please go to a professional so you don't have to say, "OH MAN!!!".

Remember..... A picture is worth a thousand words Smiley
