Another week on a business trip, got out detecting three times. First hunt was on a nice flat field I had permission on from a local farmer, detected about 1.5 hours from dusk to dark. Didn?t find much but had a good time swinging. The finds from that hunt. Two buttons and one with a rampant lion facing right, late 1800s German military. A crusty late 1800s coin and a 1921 aluminum 50 Pfennig coin in nice condition.
I drove past these stairs several times near my work site, had to find out where they went so I prepared to explore/detect one day after work.
The stairs led up to an old foundation, probably a German WWII barracks looking at the layout of the foundation. Detected for about 1.5 hours into the dark. There was a lot of trash but I found many brass casings from American and German bullets and several live German rounds. Also found a 1961 American nickel. No pictures of the finds. This is a bad picture of the foundation, was getting dark fast and raining.
The hotel I stayed in owns much of the land around the middle of town. They were building a new road that leads to their parking lot so I asked permission to detect the small lot. Permission was granted by the manager and I could hardly wait to get down there, just 80? from the middle of a town built in 938 AD. It was another night hunt and very muddy but I did not mind as I was dreaming of medieval silver hammered coins. After about 30 minutes of detecting, I realized most of the dirt here was fill dirt. I only found a few small pieces of old ceramic shards, a lot of trash and two 1900 coins. A bit of a let down but still a thrill filled hunt. Here?s a picture I took of the lot in the daylight. A nice flat area behind me with a few mounds of dirt, part of the road construction, my hotel to the left and a castle to the upper right.
The two coins I found, 1 Deutsch Mark from 1971 and a 1940 WWII 5 Pfennig coin with a swastika. HH, Mike
