Go Up Go Down

Soon after I received my Fisher Gold Bug 2, I jumped into my VW Vanagon and headed off to Quartzsite to find some gold.  I only found one small spec, but the detector worked fine.  I high-tailed it for Summit Diggings on Hwy 395 north of Randsburg, California.  I pulled into my favorite drywashing spot and slid the vanagon side slide door open and sat down to put-on my waist mounted gold bug.  I then sat the searchcoil head on the ground and plugged in the coil connector.

The Gold Bug went off like a shotgun.  I moved the coil around and sure enough there was metal right under my coil head.  I dug around and all I found was what looked like a chalk rock.  The detector confirmed that it was metal.  I put it in my mouth to clean it off.  I was shocked,  It was a quarter ounce gold nugget.  I spent the next two days there and never found another thing.  I buried a 1995 penny where the gold nugget was found.

That's awesome!  Great What's the reason for burying the penny?

I haven't been up there since my find, and If the penny is gone next time I'm up there I'll know that someone  has been using a metal detector there.

Not that I care!

farmdigger;

If you get some gold you have to appease the gold-gods and leave them an offering. Haven't you gone up a country road and seen chunks of hay on the road?? That is some farmer leaving offerings for the road-gods. (I didn't capitalize 'gods' because they are only small fry.)

When I used to hunt, I would always leave a chunk of meat offering in a tree fork, to appease the hunting-gods and the animal spirit.... its a native thing. It works the same for nuggets (and coins?) It might even work for treasure-gods.

Brian AKA goldigger (biting tongue in cheek)
