They look like the German 9mm that also fit the M1... or pistol rounds.

Looks like somebody killed a stump.

goldigger

The stump was definitely dead  Grin but it may have been shot while there was still a tree there. Not much damage to the projectiles so I am wondering what the purpose was. Shocked

Vicious attack stump? Huh?  Grin
You guys are just too funny  Grin

It was a mob hit on the tree. No witnesses.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Mob hit? Shocked Poor tree Sad

Many suggestions here as to the caliber and possible weapon used by the "Mob" but I am not even amateur rank when it comes to bullets. They look home-made to me and as thick as the copper shell is, the maker wanted penetration capability. Is an M1 really a good possibility? Huh?

JSWC (Jacketed Semi Wad Cutter ), although could be HP (Hollow Point), but would need to see the front, and would have normally deformed on impact.  Undecided

My mistake.... I should have taken another shot of the front and also with a metric ruler. Well it's not too late. Cool Little to zero deformity as you can see.

Have a look see  Smiley

Nah, they could have been fired any time from the inception of the original 1903 model, followed by the model 1911 (Two World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, etc) which is still made today, although no longer military issue, having been superceded by the Barretta in 9mm Para.

Thanks again, Ray for your insight. At least this "mob hit" on an unsuspecting tree or "vicious stump" is now coming into focus. Wink

HH always,
Ken
