Go Up Go Down

Found something interesting at my new site today. I was detecting near an old pine stump (mostly rotten) and instead of going around it I just passed right over. Couldn't believe I got a signal in the stump.  Shocked
I figured it was probably a nail or something but instead found two bullets. Shocked Shocked I am no authority on these sort of things so I thought I would post the pic here and let you guys have a shot at it (no pun intended  Grin).

Thanks in advance for your replies,
HH yall,
Ken

Never know where you're going to get a signal  Smiley I always run my coil over reachable holes in old trees as I've read how someone wanting to stash something fast would toss something there - hoping to return after the heat was off. No holes have ever beeped - yet. Sue

Those are pretty cool, and I love the story.  Looks like those bullets have been waiting for you quite awhile!

Thanks Sue, Backatcha,
I wasn't really expecting any beeps but I am intrigued by what I found and I am hoping some experts on this site can shed a little light on whether the projectiles are recent or old.
Thanks all,
Ken

The exact diameter of the bullets will tell you what caliber they are but from first glance, they appear to be .38 caliber. As to the age, it's impossible to tell. You can estimate it from the patina on the lead center. Probably the result of a bit of random target practice.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

They look like the German 9mm that also fit the M1... or pistol rounds.

Looks like somebody killed a stump.

It must've been one of those vicious attack stumps that needed to be shot dead, so as to render it harmless. Round About
