Were the 56 cases of muskets/pistol ever found?
Regards Xavier
Hi Xavier,
No record of any being recovered,
Found a couple of pictures of what they would have looked like. Also some musket parts recovered from the wreck site.
1. Blunderbuss. Note the barrel; it is identical to the one that we presented to a Dorset museum.
2. East India Company Pistols [designed and made specifically for the East India Company and carried on East India ships and supplied to The East India Company Army.
3. Musket parts recovered from the Wreck site.
4. Blunderbuss barrel recovered from the wreck site and donated to a Dorset museum.
We have not found any complete muskets or pistols, but have found a lot of brass/bronze parts.
The cases would have been smashed to pieces during the wrecking and their contents scattered all over the place.
The timberwork would have rotted away, leaving the brass work to bury itself around the site.
