Checked out an old park by the water to my surprise it was loaded with pennys, pennys everywhere, after the first 20 turned up no wheats I quit digging them up they are everywhere must be hundreds as if people were just throwing them at each other, pulled 6 out of one spot all within inches of each other, pulled 4 dimes but no silver and called it a day

Don't give up. You said it was an old park. Those nasty new coins (snicker) are just like pulltabs. Just put them in your bag to get them out of the way and then you can get down to the good stuff, lol.

Years ago, when taking kids out for a picnic, we'd toss out a handful of pennies, perhaps 25, and tell the kids we tossed out 30 of them just to keep them busy for a while.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Very true I may go hit it again sooner or later, gonna try the state campground next and try and figure out where the old lumber camp was from back in the 30's its a good mile hike back into no where but that will have to wait till summer, the bears are coming out of hibernation right dont want to come out as droppings..lol

We have a lot of black bear some getting over 400 lbs, they had to kill one a few years back it broke into a womans home with her in it, it was over 400lbs, they get that big they turn into man eaters. Just last spring a guy had gone back into the headwaters trout fishing by my cabin, he got attacked riding by on his atv, the bear knocked him off and cut him up bad with a few swipes if not for the mans dog that proceeded to attack the bear he would have been bear droppings. The DNR went out after the bear but never found it. Its a good two miles to hike back into the headwaters for the big trout. We also have mountain lions around which in my opinion are even more deadly they are so smart and stealthy you dont know they are there until its on top of you.

Don't forget that copper pennies are worth more for the copper in them than a pennie!  Made until 1982.  Halfway through the production year of 1982 the US switched to the copper-plated zinc cent.  The zinc cent weighs slightly less than the copper penny!   It is definitely worth your while to pick up the copper pennies!                         Detecting
