I cover the coins to twice their depth with white Vinegar. I stopped using salt and I no longer get the hazy look. It takes a little longer, but they look better. For the ones that don't come clean I take a small steel wire brush and buff them. What a difference. The coins are tuff and doesn't hurt them. I also give a quick buff with the cleaned ones and they all look like first issue when I am done. I find if the iron oxide coating on them has been on a long time, the surface looks a little pitted. Nothing you can do about it.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

I just use Aquarium Gravel enough to cover coins,  a few drops of dish soap and water.   Never tumble silver with copper.  The silver or clad will turn orange on you.
