Don't be dissapointed if the ring tests out as a counterfeit. It happens all the time.  Shocked
Rings are notorious for counterfeit operations. The US government does little or nothing
to stop the influx of counterfeit jewelry comming into the US as real.
Gold fakes are very common and now the silver is fast becomming a staple for the counterfeit operations.
I recently tried to sell a 100 gm "Italy 925 Silver" necklace. It tested out as copper with silver plating.
I have to admit I was fooled into thinking it was real.
It hit in the silver range "Garrett 350" and did not react to a magnet.
Also the stones, a pawn shop can test them for you. Just act like you may want to sell them.
Good luck in finding missing stones.

BTW: I really like that lock! I got one too, mine was "chisled" cut/open.

I know what you mean about the fakes O4G... Angry I've run acrossed many items stamped 14k , just picking them up , you can tell right away their fake. More so when theirs only one mark , in a convenient place to stamp it. This ring has nothing of a stamped K weight . Weighs 3.2 grams...so I'm hoping for 18+K ? Talking about silver   Grin ...the wife came home yesterday with a 1946 Dime.....she occasionally finds them in her change at work. Kinda like a $ 2.00 raise for the day ya know? She gets to prospect without the hassle of dirty fingers , digging & digging ...and back aches !!  The lock is kinda nice...weighs 12 oz...heafty one compared to the others I have found around here.    cheers my friend   :Smiley :Smiley

Gold ring missing huge stone..have to test what K ?

That ring may not be gold, just sort of gold in color. All gold rings have a stamp inside of them with their gold content. Also, you don't normally see gold rings with a split to adjust them at the base. Just have a closer look. I believe your first gold ring is still out there waiting for you.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Those are some really good finds!!! My first trip mding was this weekend and I only a 1996 dime, a 2003 penny and a muzzle loader bullet from around 1870. Not bad but nowhere near what you came away with.
