Go Up Go Down

Oh joy!  The 14 of us arrived at the lobby of the Sirenis Resort in Punta Cana only to be told our rooms would not be ready for four hours.  To the bar did our group go.

Once settled in the room I quickly assembled the Pro and headed to the beach alone as I was the only digger in the group.

Marie arrived a tad later and took up her station near the shore.  Coins in the dry sand around the chairs were scarce so I ventured to the wet sand. Adjusted the Pro.  By this time the heat was getting to me so I went aquatic.....big mistake as within two minutes the Pro crapped out.  This was the first time I had taken it in the water since its last trip to Garrett for repairs (5th time).  No problemo as I just returned to the room and put together the Seahunter Mk11  which is what I used for the rest of the trip.

Later that day caught up with my daughter Kayla and Cody who were chilling by the pool.

This was my daughter's first trip south and dad was going to keep at least one eye on her most of the time.

Next day it was off to the water park for some r and r.

Mind you it would not be in this life time that you would catch me going down one of those water slides!

Got to swing later in the day netting a few more coins.

The Sirenis Resort is a good 40 minute walk from the next resort area.  A tad far for us but we did do a walk about on a most sunny day with the temperature hoovering around 30 cel.  Must say the wind was always blowing which made for some serious swells in the swimming areas.  Thought I would give the wave to James and the bouys from the RGV Metal Detecting club whose tshirt I proudly wore.

This was the first time Marie and I were only staying for week as on the previous 7/8 times we did two so I had to jam in all the dig time I could.  Again the waves, wind and uneven bottom made swishing not very enjoyable.  Always had to keep an eye on the sea for the big waves.  Seemed like the best time for the water was at low tide out as far as the cut.  This area also produced the most coins.

Day four and still no rings!  Marie however found a slot machine that was called "Rings".  Here we lost $20 three nights in a row.  As for other entertainment the staff put on a show each night.....man could they dance.

In this photo Kayla, Kenny, Heather, Maxine, Jerry and Marie were heading out for supper.  Food at this resort was average for the Dominican with the once exception being the Japanese restaurant.  The show the cook put on was almost as good as the food!

The service vehicle in our section of the resort was a real winner.  Don't think it would pass safety inspection.

Folks in the Dominican drive like crazy and it is not uncommon to see 4 people on a motorcycle.

Next day hammed it up with Myrtle the Turtle.  He did not bring me any good luck as I was still ringless which was a first for my trips there.

That evening we tried the steak house which featured grilled baseball gloves.....man was the food bad but the company.....priceless!

Seemed like the evening just before sunset was the best time for swinging.  Less people, warm breeze, into the zone and a few coins.

Another trip was over.  It was not a very productive one digging wise however it nice to be able to bring my daughter.  Quality time with some with special people.

130 coins from at least 15 different countries and a few dinkies that I gave to children on the beach.

Looks like all had a good time. Man, I am sorry about the Pro. They should replace it because you have really  have had lots of problems with it.

Sounds like a great and fun trip, Bluenoser.  Man am I jealous!  I didn't get to take my annual 2-week trip to Hawaii this year.  Thanks for sharing!  It's about time to start digging those quotas out of the homeland now, isn't it?

Wow I'd  love  to  go detecting  there. Although  I  don't  know  how  much  I  would  actually  do
as exploring  the  island  with drinks in my hand  may keep  me busy LOL.

Congrats  on  a wonderful  island  hunt.
