Good suggestions guys. As I mentioned at the opening of this post, I used a blade with magnets. I took a quick pic to show you. I have yet to build my magnetic claw and your suggestion, GD really raised my eyebrows but I wonder how effective it will be if the actual magnet/s are too far from the ends of the claw. Cool Remember, I'm not using the blade to dig with but rather to slice through loose soil.
Thanks,
Ken

Ken, you turn it over to use the magnet. Why have something stuck to the digging end? All you need it for is to check the soil later.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Oh ok. I see your point now.  Smiley I wasn't really considering my "claw" as a digger but rather as three magnetic fingers that would speed up the process a little versus my knife with 2 magnets attached. Also I would prefer something more permanent (occasionally the magnets move or get dislodged from the blade  Angry ). But it could be an all in one tool. That would be handy to have and easier to keep up with.... digger on one end, magnetic claw on the other.  Great
