Thanks! All I had to do was let it soak in vinegar for a few hours and hit it with a toothbrush.
The soil is weird down here in SW FL. I have pulled some pennies a couple of years old out of black sand that are corroded and pitted to heck. This one and a few others I have found were in a white sand layer and coated with a hard white layer of something. Calcium? It doesn't dissolve in water, only vinegar. It sure preserves the copper, whatever it is. I haven't found any silver with the white layer. Any ideas what it could be?
