That is a very interesting piece to me.

I just looked it up...  it is a nice piece that could have fetched over $1000 US in the best of conditions.  It looks to be a very classy looking coin that I would collect if I were more of a collector.

  Very nice piece sir.

Yes they are a nice coin to own big and heavy, they were actually the Penny's that were put on dead peoples eyes to keep them shut.
When produced it was made of pure copper, so they didn't wear that well, were not popular with the Lady's due to purse size  there wight and size was bulky.
The king at the time wanted to give the people a coin that had the same exchange value as the metal it was made out of.
The condition is better than the picture shows, a few small pit marks, but after buffing with wax all detail is easily visible.

Have a nice day

                        Shocked 14" - 16"Huh??? Shocked

Man, either that is one big ole penny or I really do need an upgrade of detectors!  I dug up a wheatie earlier today around 8 inches deep and that was a very very  very ifffffy id that I almost did not even dig.  It was right on the edge of the 505's range and I was feeling cerebral when I saw the depth that it was registering and wanted to see if the older coins may have been deeper in that area so I experimented and dug up a '56 Denver.  I got an extra inch or two on another copper later and am now thinking about cutting deeper targets a little more slack on ID consistency.

Really though, I know that the GPX series is definitely in another price class than my cheapo but that is more than five inches of depth on a coin that can't be any bigger than a quarter.  Is it really that much bigger??  Half dollar size?  I have pulled up a '52 half dollar from nearly a foot down.
