Randy:
    Wink  It's Your's !   Cool
I have a new Snubnose, Commander Model, That, I just bought last yr !
I know the route/trail (of my own making) that I was on when I last had it.
In fact, I have an idea that it may be sitting/laying on top of a big boulder!   Wink
I was sitting on the boulder, checking out Indian Dwellings in the general area.
When I got back to camp, is when I missed it!
It may have come out of the holster when I was sitting there!
I had a similar occurrence in New Mexico !
I was sitting on top of a boulder, looking for a cabin.
When I got back to the "Rokon", I went to unhook the camera, from my belt!
HA!  :Smiley
Gone !    Embarrassed
I knew I was in BIG! TROUBLE !     :Smiley
AND!
That I was going to have to go back and get it!   Sad
"IT!" was my wife's camera!
SO!
I, went back to the boulder, the next week ..
AND!
There it was, sitting on top, right!, where it had came unclipped/loose!
Anyhow, I think that....
There were 7 dwellings off in the distance! that I counted & could see!
If! I could see 7, there more than likely must be more!
I guess we'll find out, HUH!     Huh?
The .45, may not have been manufactured by "Colt" !
I had three of them at the time!
They were made by, 1- Colt, 1- Ithica(sp?) 1- Signal Corp.
They were all new military issue, so, being phos. coated, it may not be in all that bad shape !

The mine is real.  I've spent over fifteen years researching it.  I have a decent idea where it is: it is on the northwest corner of Bluff Springs Mountain.

It consists of a funnel shaped pit that decends from ledges on the sides of the steep cliffs forming the NW corner.  A tunnel cut in the shape of a triangle ascends at a 30* angle to intersect the pit.  The pit was filled in by Jacob Waltz, the Dutchman, after his partner was killed by Indians.

I have physical disabilities which prevent me from going in search of it. Anyway the Forest Service will never allow anyone to dig out the pit or to open it from the tunnel below.  They have only issued one Treasure Hunting Permit to Ronald Feldman who is a local packmaster/tour guide who is examining a cave for possible treasure in the eastern portions of the Superstition Mountains.

Also, searching for the mine is a fruitless endeavor. There are many violent and unscrupulous individuals who would thwart searchers. The  mountains are so rugged as to represent another threat to a searcher and most importantly treasure hunting in the Tonto National Forrest is illegal.

So that's my summary of the lessons I've learned searching for the Dutchman!

The real treasure is to be found in spending time with your wife and kids having fun like metal detecting in park while your kids play on the swings.

Interesting, never heard this one before! Smiley I'd be more inclined to think it was a mountain to the West, on Black Top Mesa before I'd expect Bluff Springs. Haven't been up to Bluff Springs yet though, so maybe I'll go check it out. If I find something, oh...wait...I won't find anything  Shocked Shocked

Yes, he got a permit to do a dig on Iron Mountain. They didn't find anything, or so I'm told. I also heard they found the tunnel that had the treasure and everyone started arguing, so they called the operation off. I think he might have went in "after dark" and finished digging that tunnel out. Makes me wonder why in the world he would even get a permit in the first place though...who knows.

Even if someone wanted get a permit- it would be almost impossible to get one just to explore for it much less getting permit to actually dig for it. The Forest Service has heard every conceivable story over the years and I'm sure nothing anyone says would be new.

Well Ron got a permit...so I don't think it can be that hard, if you can provide evidence. Sure takes a long time though...took him 5 years.

if you want to find gold in superstition mountains you first have to find the mine that is called the sky blue treasure and you can pickup ore right on the mine dump that has tiny nuggets of gold in the quartz host rocks and dig out the mine. Rider Rider
