Thinking 'What if she did not cross the Trinity River' since crossing it would put her closer to the Nun Convent. So by using Google Earth I scan the area near the Trinity River and there is 2 Mount Pilgrim churches off the Trinity river without crossing the river..  Just a thought.  :Smiley

I was doing a web search on the Old Pilgrim Community here in Elkhart and came across this link. Plan to make a drive out that way tomorrow if nothing else than to get some pics and walk around. One of the older gentlemen in the area says he found a hand full of what he called "Silver Dollars" some years ago.

Just find a thread that's interesting to you and join in or start a thread of your own, you can post some photos of your finds if you like.

Go Up Go Down

Welcome Rebecca from a displaced Texan.  Born and raised around Hillsboro and Waco, but moved to Idaho in 2007.  There are many tales of buried treasure there in East Texas, but some also in Central Texas where I grew up.  Always the one that held my curiosity was the one that no one that I can find now remembers.  When I was in my pre-teens, I was sitting with my parents at Dad's sister's house with her family.  We were all out on the front porch.  Uncle Bill was reading the newspaper and said a letter had been sent to the Waco newspaper about the laws concerning gold bars that were found along the banks for the Brazos River.  The paper published a note that told of the governments claim of any gold found.  Supposedly they had found 16 gold bars.  After the paper published the note, no one heard from the people again.  Did they take that gold?  Was it a tale, or have I some how imagined this story during my childhood?  I have mentioned this in a couple of other forums, but no one has heard about it.  I called my cousin that was sitting on the porch with us that day, but she didn't remember anything about it either.  Oh, well, maybe I dreamed it.  It certainly seems real in my mind.
But, anyway, welcome to the forum!  Hope you enjoy it.
