Manual Ground Bal is just like on most detectors.
From the Manual:
To achieve the best ground balance tuning, it is essential that the coil be
held parallel
to the ground surface at all times during the procedure
.
The next settingis to adjust the Sensitivity to suit the site conditions. From the minimum setting of the Sensitivity knob (set at minimum in the initial ground balancing procedure ), adjust the control clockwise to increase the 12 sensitivity. Repeat the procedure of raising and lowering the coil between 3” (75 mm) and 10” (250 mm) above the ground surface, as for ground balancing. If there is no change in tone while doing this, then the sensitivity
may be increased further. For best results, the setting should be at the maximum possible while maintaining a stable threshold tone . At maximum sensitivity settings, a slight tone change may be noted when both raising and lowering the coil. This will not adversely affect the operation of the Nexus Standard Mk II
, providing that the coil is kept at a reasonably constant level above the ground surface and parallel to it while detecting.
LOL, What it's trying to say!
1. Set Sensitivity to suit ground conditions. I would set mid point first attempt. Depending on Ground conditions you may be need to set higher or lower to start.
2. Lower and Raise Coil to and from the Ground . If Threshold Rises adjust Ground Control Clockwise 1/4 turn and repeat until Threshold changes little to none..
If Threshold Lowers adjust Ground control Counter Clockwise 1/4 turn and repeat until Threshold changes little to non.
3. That being done, Try rising the Sensitivity and raise and lower the coil again. Steps 1 and 2 may need repeated. When you reach the point you can no longer cancel the ground you have reached your best sensitivity for that area.
Best Sensitivity is achieved if the Threshold tone rises slightly when the coil approaches the ground. This is Called Hot Ground Bal.
