Well, I guess it is not impossible, but not very easy.
There is no plug and play instruction available.
There were some very interesting informations in a Geotech forum archive... !
Sture once posted some details about his first sidescan sonars there... including a schematic of the towfish electronics.
There was also a discussion with details and pictures about how to build your own transducers. But I think there was no information about how good they actually worked.
Just browse and you might still find it.

But there were no details about the upside electronics.
Looking at the pictures from Stures home page and reading some of his explanations you now what different kind of circuit boards he used. But I did not see any schematics or similar.
So here probably some person with electrotechnical background is needed.
I will see if I find the time to build something similar within the next year(s).
