Shallow water hunting St Thomas, USVI.  Insurance replacement appraisal came in over $8,000!  Is this a great hobby or what?  CC.

Sure is a great hobby, I want to find that same ring. I have been to Megans Bay in the VI and loved it. I have read about some gold coins being found there in the water. Not tourist money either. Maybe pirate loot. Thet were found right off the beaten path. The guy was detecting in the water off the beach and found them. I mean old coins.

Rider Cabo, good job! I am working the beaches too!. I have a cheap MD. Works great in the sand but beeps all over near the water. Any advice, besides buy a new MD. Thats not a choice for me right now. Later, John

Turn your sensitivity down a little at a time until it stabilizes. Most people assume that the maximum sensitivity is always best. If that were so, there would not be an adjustment for it. It would always be set to maximum. Sometimes, you just have to turn it down just to hear through the chatter. Salt water and black sands make your detector think there is a variation in the return timing or signal strength that is indicative of metal in the target zone. Turning down sensitivity allows only the strongest targets to push on through.

Try it. No harm, no foul, and it will probably cure the problem for you.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
